This is a matter of factoring out the top so that you can cancel the bottom...

(x^2 y^7 - 4x^8 y^5) is the same as saying (x^2 y) (y^6 - 4x^6 y^4)

So the x^2 y terms would cancel

Final answer: y^6 - 4x^6 y^4

basic formula
(A - B)/C = A/C - B/C

so
x^2 y^7 - 4x^8 y^5) / (x^2 y) =
= (x^2 y^7) / (x^2 y) - (4x^8 y^5)/(x^2 y)
= y^6 - 4 x^6 y^4

(x^2 y^7 - 4x^8 y^5) / (x^2 y)
= [ (x^2 y^5)*(y^2 - 4x^6) ] / (x^2 y)
= y^4 * (y^2 - 4x^6
