Well, personally, I find that my body doesn't work anywhere near as well as it used to. Because of my arthritis, I have trouble just getting around, let alone doing all the things for myself that I am used to handling.
I have to be especially careful gripping things, because my hands just can not handle the weight that they used to lift quite easily. It is not fun dropping a five pound box of children's drinks on your foot, believe me.

Are you doing a thesis on the elderly? We face no more problems than the young, they are different problems that's all. There are a lot of predjudices about the elderly that cause more problems.Money, unless you are one of the fortunate ones,is a big problem and from that other problems arise. Not being able to afford good food and heating are major problems as this leads to poor health and depression.Loneliness is a problem for a lot of people now we have become a global market for jobs etc, families can be living thousands of miles apart (my daughter is in Australia,my brother in America) .You become invisible when you grow old,you get ignored in shops etc, however,on the plus side, nobody notices if you are not dressed to the nines with your make up on!!You are not being hassled by sex crazed men(pity) and you can get away with saying really outrageous things! All in all,it is not so bad providing you keep your sense of humour!

Positive attitude plays a large part, at least it does for me.
As we age, our bodies begin to lose function in our vital organs at a rate of 1% per year starting at age 30. Therefore, by the time you reach say 70, you've lost a good part of your function.
You can do one of two things:
1. Disengage from society and become a hermit thereby depriving friends and family of your life experiences or
2. Stay engaged and active. Life is what you make it, at any age. This is my pick.
We also may become disabled by disease or injury much more readily. We become what is called "fragile".
Most of us have worked for many years, whether in the home or outside of the home. And we don't tend to take aging lightly. We understand the direction we're heading.
My attitude is very upbeat and I have no trouble communicating with all age groups. I am fortunate that I show no signs of dementia and I'm extremely thankful for that.
Old age is an adventure that you will take just like the rest of us. You must understand that from the moment of your conception, with every moment, day, week, month and year that you live, you are headed for old age.
I wish you a great, prosperous and rewarding life!

Due to their age, they face a lot of new health problems. So many people have lost their respect for others, the senior citizens are not thought about as much as they should be. If evreyone would try and help them, they would not have as many problems such as, taking them out when they need to go to their doctors, grocery store, pharmacy, or visiting them just to alleviate their loneliness. Being that you have asked this question, try to do something that will lessen their problems. Some of them have no one in their lives. Good luck to you.

Because most of us never believed that we could or would ever grow old or get sick like our own parents did! We laughed at old people & lived life to the fullest. Many of us did street drugs & also consumed alcohol & massive amounts of fatty & sugary processed foods. Then there are the cigarettes, second hand smoke (from working in buildings where everyone was allowed to smoke), working in environments with toxic substances without safety gear & proper knowledge, etc, etc, etc.........I could go on forever. It sucks getting old & looking back on just where you went wrong & trying to figure out why your health went down hill. It's just what happens. Staying away from doctors & medications will prolong your life as you grow older!

What problems are you talking about? I can walk and talk and see and I have this wonderful computer and 4 children and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. I had a wonderful career in nursing and now I'm retired and get to enjoy the fruits of my labor. Where's the problem?

lost sense of purpose causes isolation and loss of self worth. No-one nothing to get 'dressed up' for. If alone, can't make the effort to cook for one, diet suffers and vitamin/mineral loss affects body function. Bereavements over friends and families can affect mood. Aches and pains can prevent activities. Maybe only young families in their area so no social outlets ... many more things I'm sure. Help The Aged could fill you in if you require more detail.

They face problems because of getting older. The older you get, the more difficult things are, unless you are a millionaire.
When the body starts to go, the problems begin.

Don't we all face problems throughout life?
I know what yoiu mean cash flow problems worry about failing health and what is going to happen to you. In some ways they are the same worries we had when young but feel less able to cope with them. Not me not yet but I dread it happening
