My mother in law wants to start a landscaping business and she asked me if I could look online to find out. Well I have been looking for the past say 30 mins or so and it keeps bringing me to contractors license. Is that what she will need? We live in Louisiana so I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not to what she needs. I don't know anything about landscaping to begin with but if anyone knows about it please let me know!

Why not call a landscaper and find out what they had to do. In California and landscaping contractor also has to have instruction on chemicals and land erosion; so there might be some schooling involved. But if your mom enjoys gardening and landscaping it would be worth it. Another avenue is the Master Gardening venue which helps identify plants, plant diseases, gardening pests, etc. It is generally a statewide program given by the Cooperative extension of the University of Louisiana. I belong to Master Gardeners in CA., and it was a 16 week course to become certified--very fulfilling!

Minimum requirement would be a business licence. She probably will need to be bonded also. The business licence will also permit her to buy wholesale. If she has other employees, she will need to have Workmans Comp insurance. You local permit office should be able to tell you what is required in your area.
