a widely used, somewhat impolite, slang term for a woman's hymen, a piece of skin which covers the opening of the vagina and, contrary to popular belief, can be broken in any number of ways including sexual intercourse, tampon use, and vigorous exercise. It's presence, or lack thereof, was at one time used to prove or disprove a woman's virginity, but we now know that this is an archaic idea, as it can be broken in several ways, and many women are in fact born without one. Hope this helps?

Your hymen is part of your female genital parts, and sometimes it will tear when you have sex for the first time, and there may be a little pain and/or blood too. This is what's called "popping your cherry", it means losing your virginity.

There are other ways of breaking it too, but a tampon will not do it. My friend broke hers in a bicycle accident while riding her brother's bike with the bar across the top.

If you click on the link below and then click on the little icon, you'll see a larger photo. I hope it's not too graphic for you, but it's a good photo to show you what a girl looks like when she's still a virgin.

Take care.

It's a vulgar way of saying the hymen has been broken, or a girl has lost her virginity. The hymen is actually around the opening of the vagina, not up inside. Some women have a thinner one, other's the opening is completely closed off (rare). Only 43% of women bleed after the hymen is broken. So, 57% don't bleed and the hymen just stretches. The bleeding is just from the tissue tearing, and is light and doesn't last long.

Sometimes the hymen can be broken from tampon insertion or exercise, but it's pretty rare.

It's a term for losing your virginity.

When the penis enters the vagina for the first time, it has to break the hymen. The hymen is part of the external genitalia. Women sometimes bleed a little when this happens.
Only 43% of women report bleeding the first time they had sex; which means that in the other 57% of women the hymen likely stretched enough that it didn't tear.

Dave's answer was pretty accurate, I just want to point out the tampon use does not necessarily cause your hymen to break. A tampon's just not long enough, unless your hymen is very close to your opening.

That means breaking your hymen/losing your virginity. Some girls bleed (it's not like a period).
