Treating people right is, despite what kill 'em all Neocons and Politically Correct Pseudolibs would like us to believe, the most important part of Patriotism. People used to understand that.
"An Honest Day's Work for an Honest Day's Pay,""Live and Let Live," "Fair Play," "United We Stand," "Liberty and Justice for All," "Actions Speak Louder than Words," all of those corny things that are rejected out on the wingtips at both ends--used to be known as the "American Way."
We haven't always been true to it. But, our greatness as a nation has come from the times when we do.

Both. Nothing wrong with having both. And KD? How can you demand some one stop using neocon as a bull$hit term when in the same sentence you use lib?

1. They are NOT mutually exclussive
2. Quit using the term Neocon. Its rapidly becoming the most overused and misused word in todays bullshit, rapidly evolving lib lexicon.

I'm a bit of a girl scout and try to do good for those around me. I'm courteous to elderly and am free with a smile. You can only demand what you are willing to give yourself. When people demand of me, I generally dig in and tell them to shove it.

"goodness" is a meaningless term ... Let's look at slavery for example...what was good for some people (the slave owners) was bad for others (the slaves)..America was built on the backs of slave labor, now we are one of the richest countries in the world...so is slavery good? of course not, but you see my point? EVERYTHING is relative...a totaltarian society has less crime, but the people aren't free...it is forced patriotism, in a way.

My patriotism comes first, my personal ideology second.
If there is no nation, there is no nation to bring to "goodness" as you so vaguely refer to it.

I don't think this is a political question.
In our nation of Constitutional freedom of religion, there are many ideas of what is "goodness."
So, unless you can define it and we all agree on the definition, good luck.

One can be both patriotic and good. One can also be patriotic and evil.
Adolf Hitler was certainly patriotic but he was evil. Lincoln was patriotic and he was good.
