Your fish is probably not in any significant amount of pain and it sounds like he will probably recover fully given a little time. While wecan know for sure if he's feeling any pain at all, just a little pain or something more significant, we can assume since he's eating and swimming normally that he's not in really bad shape.

Just keep his tank really clean and keep him well fed and he should be fine.

Best of luck to your and your fish.

you can take a small stick and move it slowly towards the fish, approaching from the side of the damaged eye. Make sure that it's other eye can't see it. This sounds difficult but if done neatly, you would find out if it's damaged eye can see, as if it moves away from the stick. Now, you can try 6-8 drops/lt of methyl blue,[a blue liquid available in a pet shop], in your fish pond water, to cure any infections on the damaged eye.
If you remove the infections and find out that the eye can see, you can not guarantee the absence of pain but functionality can be evident, and removal of infections is a step towards painless being. Hope this has been help.

Hi Ken, I'm sorry to hear about your Goldfish but at least you were there to put him back. I would add to several people who have already recommended tanks that it is quite correct-Goldfish need to be in large volumes of filtered water but what has been omitted to mention is any container with Goldfish needs a secure 'breathable' lid or cover to prevent this happening & that includes his bowl because even if you get a tank tomorrow he may jump out at any time.

If you have him in his own 20 gallon tank where can live comfortably, he will repair it on his own. Goldfish aren't meant to live in bowls because they get huge and the high ammonia levels will kill him. The dirty water will not help his injury any, if not worsen it.

I have a goldfish. He got exited about being fed and ran into the side of his tank. He dislocated his jaw and now it is constantly crooked.

He was attempting suicide because he is not supposed to live in a bowl. You want to save your fish? Get him a tank, filter, airator, and heater, and while you are there get a goldfish guide so you can read up on how to keep your pet. I have not an ounce of sympathy for you, its cruel to keep a goldfish in a bowl. You are slowly killing the fish anyway. What does it matter to you when it dies? Today or next week but death is inevitable if you keep it in a bowl.

i would use a product called Melafix to promote rapid healing. it worked out well for my fish several times. i think it's worth a try since Melafix is all natural and will not harm your biological filter.
