I am about 10 days late. I have alot of symptoms of pregnancy and are never late. I am not under any stress. I already have a child and have some of the same feelings I had when I was pregnant before. I took a test on the 2nd day and it was a wierd turnout. Could not tell what it was, but then, I retrieved it from the trash and it showed negative. Could you still get a negative and still be pregnant? I have been reading that with some women, the hormone may take longer to show up, or per my pregnancy book, you sometimes have to wait up to two weeks after your missed period to know for sure. Is this true? Anyone been there before?

Yes because your Hcg hormone may not be high enough to be detected if you are only a few weeks pregnant. We took about 5 tests before the one at the docs came back positive. And at that point I was already 6 weeks along. You usually could get a positive reading by the 4th week, but again every woman is different. Good luck

You could have low levels, it's perfectly possible and I would totally go back on the 23rd to be retested, however, keep in mind, that yes stress can cause all the pregnancy symptoms and do wierd things to your body. If you're late for your period then try to relax, I know it's easier said than done but do your best, take a warm bath, read a book do something just for you to help alleviate some of your stress and if you're not pregnant then odds are your period will come when you stop thinking about it. I know that's hard to do, but wait until the 23rd and if still no period, go back for a test. Good luck to you! P.S. My best friend tested negative until she was 11 weeks, she now has a 10 month old little boy, so it's very possible.

I experienced a lot of negatives before finding out from a sonogram that I was indeed pregnant ( and 5 months along ). My hormone did not kick in until I was 8 months pregnant.
My doctor explained that I was 1 out of 3 billion women that do not produce a pregnancy hormone.

It can and does happen. If you think you are pregnant and have been pregnant before youa re probably right. Go and have your doctor do a blood test on you. It should show up or you.

Yes is the simple answer.A pregnancy test measures the presence of hormone that is only present when pregnant. However there has to be a certain level before it can be detected. Therefore if the level is low because it is very early in the pregnancy then you can have a negative test although being pregnant. If you are otherwise well(no abdominal pain or bleeding) I suggest repeat in a week. You cannot get a false positive

I had three negative pregnancy tests before I got a positive. I think that I was about 13 days late before I got a positive. Wait a few more dats and try again! Good luck!

Absolutely! I tested negative for 2 weeks after I missed my period in January 1998. Well on September 24, 1998 I delivered my little Kenny Boo!!! So yes! I know I got pregnant on my birthday 12/27 and my period was due January 9th. So there just was not enough time after implantation for the HCG to build up enough for me! Good luck sweetie!

Yes you can have a false negative. It is possible that your hormones are too low to detect with an at home pregnancy test right now. Make a doctors appointment and have him do a blood test.

Good Luck!

It took me 7 weeks to finally get a positive pregnancy test. I was going crazy because I just knew I was pregnant, even before my missed period. I was so relieved to finally get a positive result. I hope you don't have to wait as long as I had to. Good luck

Yes, have a blood test! Also, an HPT can turn negative after a while. Your book is absolutely right. My sister didn't have a positive HPT with either of her pregnancies, while mine showed positive almost before I even peed on the stick!!!!

My doctor told me that you can get false negatives, but not false positives. Even then, it's not that it's "false", there is not enough of the prenancy hormone in your system for the test to detect. That's why it's important to be PATIENT and wait until the right time to take the test.
