Firstly, congrats on your engagement!
Jamaica is a wonderful choice for a Honeymoon and it being the 2nd top Honeymoon destination so it must be doing something right!
Ocho Rios is a beautiful area, but so is Negril. Ocho Rios is more the lush/tropical area with the mountains pushing closer to the ocean thus creating many resorts with a cove like beach area (some aren't like this). Negril is where they have the 7 mile beach and while the area is still tropical, it is more flat of an area than Ocho Rios.
On how great the weather will be depends on the time of year you are planning on going so I'm not able to answer this for you. Because depending on when you go, you could find yourself in the middle of Hurricane season.
As far as if this is the right Honeymoon destination for you, is yet to be determined. There are many islands in the Caribbean that might turn out to be a better place for you. I would highly suggest contacting a travel specialist who is familiar with the Caribbean. They can ask you various questions to help determine where they feel are the best place for you to go all within staying within your budget if possible.
An agent who just agrees with everything you say isn't always going to be the best agent. This might be one that is either to lazy to try and qualify a person or they aren't knowledgeable enough to guide you differently. Sometimes of course though what a client does want ends up to be a good choice, just depends. If you have some flexibility with dates after your wedding date, we might be able to find you a bit lower price. Plus we can tell you if it even IS a good price to begin with.
With an agent you always have a contact person to answer all your questions, concerns, and help you with any potential problems that may happen while on your travels. We do all that we can to avoid problems, but some are just unavoidable and it can be nice to have someone in your corner helping you with the matter. Some agencies will charge a nominal service fee, I usually determine this based off of how time consuming it is for me. Many destinations I already know who prices out the best it doesn't take to long to compare between several other vendors. Sometimes I waive the fee all together, depending.
Make sure you have your passports valid for 6 months beyond your return date. If you are traveling prior to when they are allowing you to travel on a receipt printed from travel.state.gov make sure though your name is able to be pulled up to print this as I had a client who applied a month ago and her name still isn't listed on there. Even though it is saying it takes 7 - 10 days. If your names aren't listed on here there will be no exceptions on other forms of proving you applied for your passports. This rule applies for travel to the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada prior to Sept. 30th 2007. All travel after that requires a passport.
Please let me know if I can help you further, otherwise I wish you the best of time on your Honeymoon!

Puerto Rico is beatiful but not safe at all. Just in January there were more than 100 murders. Last year, there were approximately 1,000. And we are talking about an island the size of a big city, only 100 miles by 35 miles. I left the island in 2000. Wanted to come back, but then my daughter was born in 2004. I do not want to raise my daughter in that environment, so I am not going back. Jamaica, is weedheaven. They even help pay the country's debt by selling drugs mostly to Denmark or other drug legal countries. It is a beatiful as PR and a little safer. People are not rude to tourist, they are rude to everyone. It is kind of their thing. It is mostly cultural thing. The tribes that were taken there were mostly Zulus, which as you know were warrior to begin with. They are very closed minded and don't fool around. Once they open, they are your best friends. Costa Rica would be the spot to relax and have a comparatively safe honeymoon. I say comparatively because there are always the guerrillas from adjacent countries that are in the business of abducting american tourist. Even then, it is safer than PR and Jamaica.

I've been to Jamaica many times - I love it there, and I'll use any excuse to go. I think it's a great place to honeymoon, as you can do just about as much or as little as you want. The people who live there are so nice - I hope you end up going!

Way too much crime on this island. All of these great resorts are fenced in for a reason. To keep out the criminal element. Bahamas out islands would be much nicer for a "honeymoon" for privacy. Look at house rentals in the Bahamas islands like Eleuthera. Avoid Nassau or Grand Bahama. Turks and Caicos has a gorgeous 12 mile beach but more people. St John is a great place.

Jamaica is a great place to honeymoon. I went to a Sandals resort in Montego Bay (Sandals Royal Carribean) & it was amazing. The weather was poor the week we were there, but there is still so much to do. We climbed a waterfall & went on a horseback ride & swim.
People are great & the island is aboslutely beautiful. I'd highly recommend it

My wife and I honeymooned at Sandals Whitehouse, Jamaica in 2005. It is on the southwest coast of the island and was absolutely beautiful. I don't know what kind of budget you're on, but I highly suggest this particular all-inclusive.
Check out tropictravelonline.com. I found it to be extremely useful.

We love it and go every xmas. We stay at Sandals Negril. All inclusive is great, no surprises (cash wise). Hubby scubas alot and we sure get our money's worth. Food is more than fine (but less than super gourmet), people (staff) very nice, drinks are fab and all you want. The setting is just beautiful. No need to leave the resort if you don't want to. Congrats and have a lovely honeymoon where ever you go.

Can be.
Visit Montego Bay, but stay in Ocho Rios.
There are raft rides by guide from the mountains down the river. Very nice. Forgot the name of it.
Kingston is just a big city, lot's of crime.
