Its not the moderate liberals like you that make "liberals" seem unpatriotic. It is the far left people like Rosie, who make comments about our military being the terrorists.
It is the Harry Reids and Russ Feingolds of the world that would rather us ste a date for withdrawl so that the bad guys can line up and kill more soldiers.
The moderate left is not the issue. The issue is the far left.
So far left that they actually think the President planned 9/11.
So far left that they want to give the bad guys the same legal protection that you and I deserve.
So far left that it is wrong to ask that ENGLISH be declared the official language.
So far left that when the military came home from Vietnam, people spat on them.
So far left that when politicians and other public figures speak out against the war, our enemies are emboldened.
That my friends is UNPATRIOTIC!
I am not saying you have to agree with everything, just remember that for all of your actions, their is an equal and opposite reaction. You might not see it here, but our troops on the front lines will probably feel it.

I would have to disagree with your self-classification as a "moderate liberal". This is coming from a guy who will only date a nice republican woman and not one of those terrorist loving, pot smoking, wimpy democratic women. Your questions (rants) on this forum has been used to portray anyone to the left of Bob Dole in an unfair manner.
That being said, the only people who think liberals are unpatriotic are people in power who wish to stifle dissenting voices by branding someone as unpatriotic as they wipe their *** with the Constitution. I will not apologize for my views or listen to morons call me a terrorist sympathizer because I think the laws of this country should be upheld and that our Constitution is the bedrock of this nation, this does not change just cause "there are bad men who want to kill our children".
BTW- Islam, you comment about how we should only dissent BEFORE military action is utter BS. Those of us who DID dissent prior to the Iraq war were told that we were already at war because we were attacked by Al Qaeda (who happens to not be Iraq) on 9/11. From that day on we were in a war on SOMETHING. We were told we had to COME TOGETHER because to do otherwise was to Let The Terrorists Win. Don't you see how ridiculous this is? Think about Vietnam, how many more people would have died if people DIDN'T rise up and take a stand? It's so very easy to say that our free speech causes death in the battlefield, but isn't that free speech what we are supposedly protecting? What the hell is the point of fighting in a war to SAVE America, if we willingly give up our freedoms here at home? We might as well just save everyone time and money and wave that big white flag and let "the enemy" know that they have already won.

the U.S. is a liberal country and conservatives cannot stand that. the republican party claims to love America but clearly doesn't love Americans, their hypocrisy is now so transparent that it's hardly news to anyone that can read a newspaper. the present administration in it's quest for unquestioned power has turned the constitution on it's head and in the process has placed a target squarely on the back of every citizen, all in the name of protecting America as the party that can be trusted to guard our values from liberals who would just hand over the country to a terrorist or a invading army. the republican/conservative agenda is in the process of trying to undo many of the gains that have been made in the areas of civil liberties, environmental protection, finance and business and most to the detriment of the people.
what i fear most is a further divide between those at the top of the ladder from those at the bottom. all Americans will unite in the pursuit of freedom from it's government, as this one is spiraling out of control

For the same reason that so many think that conservatives are unpatriotic. A few bad apples spoil the bunch. There are unpatriotic people, criminals, corrupt individuals who are liberal and conservative. But that does not mean that all liberals and conservatives are like that.
MOST liberals and conservatives just want what is best for their families and America. They just have different views of what "best" is and how to get there. But that has nothing to do with patriotism. I am glad you love our nation - I do too! Even if we disagree on some political philosophies, I respect your right to your opinion. That's what America is all about!

Sorry, Kevw, being "conservative" means being on a "dog leash." Why do you think Bush and Cheney have fought so hard to take away our Civil Liberties? That doesn't bode well for being a "conservative republican," does it? Loose definitions of "terrorist" of "enemy combatant" the PATRIOT ACT, illegal wire taps, where does it end? Al Franken said it best: Conservatives treat America as though it were a child that can do no wrong. Liberals see America as an equal in an adult relationship. Liberals see that our country IS great, but has it's flaws. We Liberals point out those flaws and want to work WITH America to fix those flaws. Liberals want dialogue, conservatives just want what they want; a country with as little government, and little regulation as possibel so they can make as much money as possible. They want little or no government regulation for the same reason criminals want fewer cops. It's easier to get away with murder.
And DLW is right, Conservatives do all the "symbollic" things to make others think they're patriotic. But when it comes time to pay their taxes, they look for any way they can to avoid paying as much as they can. A TRUE PATRIOT makes SACRIFICES for their country in a time of War, they don't take tax cuts. Shame on GW Bush, Cheney, their administration and all of those who call themselves "patriots" but aren't PATRIOTIC and support their country year round!

Because the right is radicalized and intoxicated by some sort of master American metanarrative. It's not enough to wish and do good for one's country to be patriotic. You have to do other things. Symbolic things. Shoot fireworks on Independence Day. Go to church. Say the Pledge of Allegiance in the way prescribed in the 1950s. Be Christian. Have unquestioning faith in the actions of the military. Submissive, blind loyalty. Etc., etc.
The right is radicalized and have dominated this metanarrative effectively. The left can't claim the right is unpatriotic nearly so effectively because patriotism is already branded.

because they seem to be fighting very hard to loose this war , Why would they not support the patriot act? you won't be bothered if you are not a criminal , the practices in the patriot act have been in use for years to catch organized crime leaders . It would make it easier to stop terrorists but they refuse purely on principal
They bash our leader constantly to ruin his and America's image . Sure democracy is about freedom of speach , but how about not wishing the man dead and having intelligent debate about our leader . Everytime they bash Bush it is bashing America in the eyes of the world .
if you watch loose change it is an obvious propaganda film full of lies and deceit , why would that guy knowingly lie in his film to bash bush and America? The problem is young people actually believe it without researching the "facts"
Michael Moore is a liberal and makes movies on how bad America is , is that patriotic? of course it isn't , he wants America to be like Canada , which is confusing because it seems if he moved to Canada he would be happy
maybe you are not one of these modern liberals , maybe you are an open minded progressive thinking individual that makes decisions based on knowledge instead of infowars.com , if that is the case you are rare . You speak of dividing the country , Michael Moore , the loose change video , the dixie chicks , jane fonda , charlie scheen , rosie odonnel , ect.. are doing more to divide the country than anything else . These people assume their ideas are so much better than the ideas the country was founded on that they are doing everything they can to divide the country

The Founding Fathers believed in very limited central government with a vast majority of freedoms for the citizens. If you think they were the greatest group of men ever to live (as do I) then look at the "movement" you're part of and tell me whether what liberals believe in fits in with the model for the country that the Founding Fathers put together or what they believe in is worse than the monarchy that our Founding Fathers fought to overthrow.
Too many liberals believe in government much much more intrusive than George III could ever envision.
I'm glad for you that you consider yourself patriotic and appreciate those who have fought for it, but you might want to consider how your beliefs fit with the label you've placed on yourself.

A person is smart. People are panicky and stupid. Uniting under a common cause only happens when Americans face a similar and serious threat or disaster. Its human nature...and the American way. They have just as much right to say what they want as you do. The only difference is that your idealism is actually one that preserves their rights too...and you get pissed because they are using their rights to complain while you are using yours to defend theirs.
