His given name is Buckbeak, but Hagrid has been known to call him "Beaky". Buckbeak is given the name Witherwings, to hide his identity from Ministry of Magic officials that he is an animal set to be executed.

Buckbeak or Witherwings. Witherwings is his code name, since he techinally was supposed to be executed in book 3.

yes, it's Buckbeak the hippogriff. (he's called Witherwings when he later returns to Hogwarts, as not to arouse suspicion.)
