the east coast is still not as strong as the west. the west is simply loaded- big men! they have a million powerfowards in garnett, duncan, nowitzki - just to name a few. shaq is old now he doesn't dominate as much. dwade and lbj. yeah they're good but not as good as kobe and other west-ers. the pistons dominate every year- why? because the east coast has little/no competition. the west games are always more aggressive and more fun because it's better competition and tougher.

First of all, Shaq is old and is no longer even top ten in the NBA. It's not a proven fact LeBron and D-Wade are top three in the NBA. Saying the Pistons are the best defensive team in the EAST and has been to the EASTERN conference finals doesn't help any for an east-west debate.
It would have something to do with with the west killing the east 153-132 the last all-star game, or the west sweeping the east in the last NBA finals. But I think mainly it has to do with the lack of quality teams in the east.
The Pistons are aging and would have collapsed completely if they had not re-signed Chauncy Billups. The Cavaliers and Raptors are a one-man show. Miami is old and hurt. The Nets and Wizards have absolutely NO low post presence. The Magic on the other hand have no front-court presence. And the Celtics will never find the right chemistry.
There are six western teams better than all the teams in the east: San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, and Denver Nuggets. In a few years the Trail Blazers will be right up there too.

It is like watching two different leagues because of their style of play being so fast out west. I think the two leagues are closer in talent than the regular seasons of the past have shown. The difference is the west usually have 5 teams capable and deserving to be in the finals. The East Usually has one or two. That is why the NBA fans think the West is stronger. You are right about the Pistons they have been great the past 5 years, but they made a mistake when they traded Ben Wallace. Everyone feels that the East is the weaker conference because it IS the weaker conference, right now anyway. Cleveland was a 2 seed in the East this year, I believe that they had a losing record against the West. If they played a full schedule in the Western Conference, they might've been a 7 seed if they were lucky. The West is simply full of much better teams.
Because its the truth
The East is no where near the West in Talent right now of players and there Teams are Weak if half the teams that didnt make the playoffs in the West were in the East they would have been up there in competition with Detriot for the top spot in the East. If Detroit was playing in the West they would have been at best the 6th Seed.

Maybe because the best team in the east got swept in the finals. The top 5 or 6 teams in the west are better than the best team in the east.

the reason everyone feels they are so week is because they are they have only won 3 final in the past 10 years thats why they are week you can't compare the east against the east then of course they look good only two team out of the east had winning records against the west last year you do the math.

the east in general is so much more inferior compared to the west. the west is like DI mens basketball. the east is like DII womens basketball. thats how big a difference there is between the two conferences.
