This largely depends on the number of information systems your organization utilizes. The more servers and sources of data you have, the more people you'll need with specific knowledge of each of these systems. However, as a general estimation, I would say you'll need 4 people. Our company has roughly 200 personnel who work in the office, plus another 200 sales reps, and 17 servers. There are 6 people in the IT Department, 4 of whom are specialists with expertise in different areas (one of these specialists is also the IT Manager). The other two are data entry personnel. Additionally, our manager reports to the Director of Operations, whom you might consider a part of the department as well. Keep in mind, however, that we also have a corporate IT department that we rely on heavily. They cover systems used by all 18 of our locations, including our distribution system. So like I said, this answer largely depends on the number of systems you use.

There's no answer to that. If would depend on the business the company is in, and how computerized they are. The size of the IT staff would depend on what they are expected to do.
