I have been going to the doctor since 8 weeks and he has never mentioned my weight gain. I have my 20 week ultrasound in 4 weeks and am so nervous. We had 1 ultrasound at 8 weeks and the baby was healthy and we heard a heartbeat. We have heard a heartbeat at all subsuquent appointments.

wow, consider yourself BLESSED!!!!
your weight may have evened out though. you may have lost a few and gained a few and it evened out to only 4 pounds. as long as your baby is healthy, and you are too, i would be elated. i gained 9lbs in my first month alone. be happy.

That's fine, don't worry. The average weight gain is about 25 lbs. The most is put on during the last 10 weeks of pregnancy, when the average is about 1 lb. per week. You might notice a jump in your weight at your 20 week check up. I had a big jump that month, which is pretty typical. If your doctor was concerned about your weight, then he/she will tell you. Also, ask the nurse what your belly measurement is at your visit. It's about one centimeter per week, so at 20 weeks, you should measure around 20 cm. As long as you're growing, don't be so concerned about not gaining a lot of weight. Also, hearing a heartbeat should ease your fears at each visit. Best wishes.

I had only gained 1 lb at 16 weeks. Now I am 34 weeks nd I have gained like 28. Don't stress just eat well and the baby will determine how much weight you need to gain.

Pregnancy is the only time in our lives when we actually want to gain weight isn't it?

Don't worry about it too much I lost almost six pounds in my first trimester and now at 29 weeks I'm finally back to my pre-pregnancy weight, and my baby's healthy and quite big (according to those scales they use).

My doctor didn't start charting my weight before my 20th week - he said a lot of women lose weight before that time and it puts undue stress on them.

If you keep hearing a heartbeat, continue to eat healthy, take your prenatals and your doctor says everything's fine then there's really nothing to worry about.

Congrats and good luck!

The time when you gain the most weight is around the 7-9 month. Right now your fetus is only about an oz or two. This should not equal 4 lbs...You might be nervous. Slow down or you will have to much to loose after the baby is born.
You should only gain about 20 lbs.

That is fine. I only gained 3-4 lbs by the time I was 16 weeks. You start gaining most of your weight towards the end of the 2nd trimester & into the 3rd.

i am only 100 pounds (22years of age). when i had my son i couldnt keep anything down but grapes and bland soda crackers. in the end i was all belly and had gained 25 pounds, and after birth lost it all.
therefore i think it is normal, and you shouldnt be worried at all. but i know how concerned you can get during pregnancy.
just remember to excerise and eat right, even if you cant get too much food in. it is not about the weight gain anyways - it is about the health of your child. dont worry about gaining weight. worry about eating right (very alkaline).
I believe the dr. expects you to gain that much because the world is very much overweight these days because of how they eat and their lifestyle. therefore it is average (or the norm.) so doctors expect it to be about that range.
eating good and moderately excerising is WAY more important then how much you gain.
i excerised and ate good, and did lots of walking outdoors, and my son was born about 4 hours before his due date. pretty much bang on.
good luck to you and best wishes!
