'Yes Harry?' Said Dumbledre, for Harry had come to a halt.
'The ring's gone' said Harry, looking around.
'but i though you had the mouth-organ or something.'
Dumbledore beemed at him, peering over the top of his half moon specticals
"Very astute, harry, but the mouth-Organ was only ever a mouth-organ.'

This is before Harry knew about the ring being a horcrux, or even about horcruxes in general. Harry saw the ring as something of Tom Riddle's that Dumbledore had taken, and thought that maybe Dumbledore might have taken other things of young Tom Riddle's, such as the mouth-organ.

Dumbledore is saying that the ring was more than just a ring, while the mouth organ was never anything special.

So basically, Harry saw the ring as something that Tom Riddle once owned, and when it moved, he simply brought up another item that Tom Riddle once owned, and Dumbledore emphasized that only specific items were important, for a yet-unknown reason.

Harry could have brought up any of the items that fell out of the cupboard, such as the yo-yo, but he simply brought up the mouth organ.

Hope that helps clarify!

Harry realized that the ring belonged to Tom Riddle, and that Dumbledore was collecting Tom's "trophies." So Harry was kinda joking when he asked about the mouth organ, wondering if Dumbledore was looking for that. Dumbledore was impressed that Harry noticed he was looking for Voldemort's things, but Harry didn't yet know Dumbledore was really looking for Horcruxes. The mouth-organ only ever being a mouth-organ is his way of saying that Voldemort never turned it into a Horcrux, therefore he didn't need to find it.

When Dumbledore and Harry are in the pensieve looking at the memory of meeting the young Tom Riddle there is a box of stuff that Tom has hoarded away after stealing them from the other children in the orphanage he is staying in. Amongst the objects is a mouth-organ - and Harry refers to this when he and Dumbledore are back in the office.

Can't wait for the last book - couple more weeks to go!!

SPOILERS FOR 'THE HALF-BLOOD PRICE'

Earlier in the scene, Dumbledore shows Harry his memory of meeting Tom Riddle (the young Lord Voldemort) at an orphanage. Riddle has been terrorising the other children and taking things from them. A box of these items spills out, and one of the items is a mouth organ.

Dumbledore and Harry conclude that the adult Lord Voldemort is still taking trophies from his conquests, such as the ring that belonged to his grandfather. Harry last line is a joke of sorts, referring to the mouth organ that Tom Riddle had stolen as a child.

A "mouth organ" is another name for a harmonica.

Harry thought the mouth organ might have been a horkrux (though he didn't know what horkruxes were). He reckoned that the mouth organ would have been of some importance, like the ring. Dumbledore tells him, the mouth organ was only a mouth organ, not of any value as a horkrux.

i don't quite understand what your asking the mouth organ but it was brought up in the memory of Dumbldores because Voldomort stole it from someone. It was brought up because in the first hr went into the pensive Dumbledore had the ring discussed in the memoryy and harry assumed Dumbledore would have a relic from the second memory which is why he asked about the mouth organ.

The mouth organ was one of the things Tom Riddle had in his box of stolen items from the orphanage. This was the point that Harry realized that items from Voldemorts past were important and that Dumbledore was looking for them. Thats all it really means.

Harry thought that the mouth organ was a horcrux but as Dumledore told him the mouth organ was just that, it was just something that Tom stole in his childhood

A mouth organ is a harmonica :)
Voldemort had one as a child and Harry thought it was a horcrux, but Dumbledore is explaining that it wasn't a horcrux, that's how it comes into that conversation.

The mouth-organ in question (American: harmonica) was just that, a mouth-organ, with no magical properties of any kind, and not one of the missing horcuxes.
