The actual film content is probably not really that disturbing to Europeans, who are traditionally less repressed about human sexuality and images of a sexual nature.

But it really comes back to money. And I can tell you, because we have European relatives visiting us this week from two different countries in the EU, that people in many of the member countries are extremely disappointed about their joining it for one single reason: money.

When they joined, their independent currencies became replaced with the Euro. Their salaries were adjusted to become paid in Euro's, and at the same time, all their expenses were adjusted too (food, fuel, clothing, etc.).... but smart businesses and the governments themselves took the opportunity to sneak in substantial price increases. So, as a result, overnight their salaries became 20-30% LESS! And they are finally "feeling" it now.

So, no, the European union ISN'T "coming together". In fact, there are many people within it who would much rather see it "come apart".

When I asked them (yesterday) what are the good things about the EU, they didn't have much to say. I asked, well isn't it at least nice to cross borders without having to have paperwork with you? Big deal, they answered, it was never that much of a problem before, and nobody really cared.

The bottom line for everyone is the bottom dollar in their pockets. And to that extent, the EU has failed to deliver on its promises.

I liked MissDeviance's answer.

The story you reference was FAR from what I thought it was going to be...and I had to go make an account on youtube, so I could view the video....AND, it was worth it.

I love that the European Union does unite at least on the point of making European films, because what little I do see of European films is always much more entertaining, provokative, and true to human emotions than most all of what American 'movies' "put out"...

Whomever had to go through the various films to find the "coming together" has a great job. Although, I personally have no trouble referencing in my memory these kinds of scenes whenever I've seen the movies. ;)
