Basically it's everyman for himself. You are alone in the wilderness withno shoulder to lay your head upon. Trust in God and your family and do not compromise your morals.

There is no chance they will do what is right, as long as their constituencies - yes you the voters - cling to the me-me-me idea of representative government, and allow slick marketing campaigns to dictate your positions.

Government services, rather than a mechanism for solving problems and improving things in general for all, have become a prize to be won in a competition. The winners are the the ones with the best lobbyists or those that can most effectively threaten someones re-election. it's all about money and keeping a job. It's not about governing.

This is a self sustaining cycle. The 'leaders' that stand up to it will lose power or even their jobs on the next election.

Ask any congressman what happens when a military base or weapons program that is not needed or wanted by the military is shut down in that congressman's district.

Leaders do whats right for their base ,major political investors, and pocket book. Our country isn't run by the leaders we select but the people who pay to benefit from the elected official.

They do whatever they want to do. It is going to take a big shakeup like a third party candidate winning the white house or winning a lot of seats in Congress for that to change.

Unfortunately, the vast majority will do what is in their best interest. What they think will get them re-elected. Sad, but true, in my opinion.
