I don't want to know about what make-up "can" do to you... but what it "has done" to you or someone you know.

We are told that make-up is not good for our skin. But women have been using it for ages and I don't see clear evidence of any harm... so please help me see what I'm missing one!

Watch the Bare Minerals infomercial lol, it tells you all about it. Basically there are chemicals and preservatives and other things in the makeup and that isn't meant for the skin. Bare Minerals doesn't have all that extra nonsense in there. Its great stuff!!

If make-up is natural and consists no substances that cause allergies, it should cause no problems. I'm a make-up artist and sometimes girls are afraid of foundations. I use only the best quality and natural make-up and never had a problem.

But quite a few times girls told me that they had allergic reaction to foundation or eye-liners. Usually it is just redness, skin irritation, sometimes spots that are itchy. If you are allergic to eye-liners it can be very disturbing if you use it. If someone has any allergy problems should use make-up very carefully.

Some people say that foundation drys out the skin and causes wrinkles. Again, this is quite possible if you use low quality foundations with many chemical additives. If you use natural miner foundations, if possible with aloe vera, it is even very recommended to use daily. Since it protects your skin from UV-sun radiation.

Some girls use pigments instead of eyeshadows. Those are known to cause more skin irritations than usual eyeshadows. But they are much stronger and sometimes for fashion shows or when stronger make-up is needed, pigments are used. But always have to be checked for allergy reactions before useage. To do so, apply it on your bottom side of wrist, where skin is very sensitive and allergy reactions are shown within 30 min.

Advice. It's wise to spend more money and buy quality make-up, possibly all natural make-up, even if you wear it daily it shouldn't cause any problems. But don't apply too much of it. You can apply very little make-up and it still would look totally gorgeous.

I apply very little foundation, girls don't even feel it on the skin but looks great. I've written an article that explains my techniques, you can read more here: http://www.easynaturalyou.com/makeup/apply_foundation.html

Best wishes to you!

Me personally if I use any old kind of foundation it causes my skin to break out, get really oily and look horrible when I don't wear the make-up. That is even when I take great care of my skin. I have to wear mineral make-up and some of those make my skin kind of orangey. So I found one that I can use and it makes my skin look and feel healthier.

makeup really is harmful to your skin. If you don't use clean applictors, the germs from your face, a bacteria called staph, will breed on your applicators then when you use them, it can cause acne or rashes. Plus, your skin is supposed to breathe. It's got all these little pores for sweat and oil. When you plug these holes with makeup, you're more prone to acne and other skin conditions. If the oil can't come out and moisturize your face, you'll get dry skin. The damage to your skin caused by makeup will give you wrinkles sooner too.

i'm stuck in a terrible rut thanks to makeup (foundation and concealer). it all started when i was starting to break out in yr 7, i used concealer everyday to cover up spots. i started using foundation as they got worse, and as i hate bumps i started squeezing. Now my face is terrible, ive got neverending scars and scabs that i kep picking al the time, i have to wear foundation 3 layers thick everytime i leave the house and am so self-concious to the point where i can't meet new people or talk to anyone other than my family! so thats my story, makeup can really ruin your life, as it has ruined mine. ive even tried using proactive, but it makes my skin dry and flaky and my skin never has time to heal unless i can stay home for days on end til its good enough to wear makeup on top of. ok then i could blab on more.. but maybe i should make this into my own question now lol

don't get into the same habits as me! is all i can say.

If you wash it off before you go to sleep and take care of your skin (use creams and stuff) it should be fine.

But if you sleep in your makeup and dont wash it and dont use creams you can break out alot which can cause acne scars in the long run.. you can also get more wrinkles earlier than you should if you dont moisturize.

You should not have any problems with natural make-up. It is the cheap drug store brands that can cause problems for some women. I use Bee-Luscious because it is all natural and I have had excellent results using this brand.

If you sleep with it.
If you are not washing your face daily, makeup can clog dirt.
If your makeup is old. (7-8 months I throw out if haven't use all)

This is how it harms ur skin. Lets say if u used foundation. the foundation clogs ur pores. Not allowing them to breathe.

Clogs your pores (blush, foundation):

that is why cleaning it very well with facial cleansing is important.

Could enter your eye:

that could happen while cleaning your face with cleansing wipes or even with cleansing solution, when I put full make up, I tend to wash my eyes with Optrex after cleaning off my make up and washing my face.
