Will all the people who objected to the placement of CCTV cameras, and the ability of the Police to check into Mobile phone records now admit that they are in fact a good idea....or are they still not convinced, as it seems that such things have helped in the early detection of the alleged offenders.

Didn't say it would have stopped anything....said that the use of CCTV has helped bring the persons responsible to justice.

Couldn't agree more. Its only the law breakers who have something to fear. Those who object don't seem to have a problem with Sainsbury, Tesco, Debenhams, etc having their details. Where I live (middle East) EVERYONE has to have an ID card - makes life sooo much easier for everything.
Further to the first answer, life imprisonment is much more painful - the death penalty only makes martyrs.

No, I will not. I rather face the risk of terrorism than live under the watchful scrutiny of a police state that Britain is becoming.
CCTV cameras and mobile phone records are like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted - it doesn't prevent event from happening so no real protection.
Terrorist is not going to see a CCTV camera stop what he is doing and go back home.
It is our foreign policy that can do more for tackling terrorism. Most states that support the terrorist were often armed and befriended at one time or another by the British and the Americans when it suited them. Stop the hypocrisy our leaders commit and keep out where we do not belong. That would do more to win the war on terrorism than any spying.
I fear what Britain is doing to itself than the terrorist, how can we say we are winning the war when our government is doing the job of curtailing our civil liberties and is exactly what the terrorist wants us to do. Yet our civil liberties are what millions of our people died for in 2 world wars.

How about the security services do their job in the first place?
The problems with security cameras is that they are treated as a substitute for police on the streets. And they are post-hoc help in criminal circumstances. If you are assaulted, sure it may help that the assailant is captured on CCTV but that does not stop you being assaulted in the first place; but having a visible police presence just may do that.
And in the current climate? The Glasgow bombers were caught in the act. The two who placed the London bomb (it now looks like they are one and the same) were reported by - I believe - the ambulance service. So CCTV helps with identification. More than eye-witness descriptions?
Phone surveillance? Sure, on those you suspect have done something wrong or are planning to do so. Not everyone.

Early detection would mean that the incidents would not have happened, they did, albeit poorly due to mistakes by the terrorists.
CCTV/ID cards would not have stopped these incidents and there is no evidence they ever have anywhere else !
As for the mopping up afterwards, had they been successful the terrorists would now be dead and CCTV would not help.

i never objected to cctv cameras - all the people that do object tho, id like to ask why - if your not up to no good then whats the problem - its for reasons such as everything thats been going on recently as to why its so important. and dont start whining on about human rights blah blah blah - its a questions of security and safety.

They are good and bad. I think they can be used for great good for sure. I was so surprised that educated doctors would go along with this type of plot. But them if you have been told since you were 3 years old that the western world was evil and that your god wanted you to kill them for him. Well that is very sad. Makes you wonder how many of the "foreign doctors" here in the USA are waiting for the chance to do the same thing here.

Good question, and a difficult one.
To be honest I am not sure how i feel about this-its a question of balance i guess between civil liberties etc etc and the Detection/prevention of terrorism.........
We need to catch and stop these murdering bastards but at the same time i do not want to feel like i am living in the BB House.
Like a say, its a tough one !

People ***** about anything because we have been led to believe that to be against anything is chic and makes you seem intelligent. Thats what national media does in the West. The opposition to the cameras was just manufactured hooey from activists who like to see themselves on TV. Have they hurt people? No. Have they helped, yeah. The idiots who complained before will complain about something else because that is what they do. Negative people are a part of every society.

I never really understood the objections to the cameras in the first place. What makes anyone think they have some kind of right to privacy in a public place? Do they also object to cameras in retail stores? I doubt it. In my town they have cameras in the traffic lights to detect people who run red lights. My guess is the only people complaining about it are those who run red lights.
