Sure. Cardio, good hand-eye coordination required, and more $$$ and time is spent on this than any other sport than Soccer/Football, Baseball, and Basketball.

So that would make it the 4th most popular sport, and growing, it seems.

Depends on who you're asking. Guys will definitely say it's a sport... as they sit there with Jennifer Banks' eyes and their tongues hanging out longer than Gene Simmons.
The ladies who do it for a living would say it was a business. A very lucrative business. (With a little sport thrown in)

More and more gyms offer pole-dancing as a sport. But I think you leave your clothes on for that. You can also practice it at home in front of your partner and take your clothes off while dancing.

a) In my view it is more of an art like belly dancing.
b) I don't see the connection here between cheerleaders and strip teases dancers.
