maggots are larval flys ... teh maggots do not "lay" anything.

Fly beget egg, egg beget maggot, maggot beget fly, fly beget egg ... et cetra.

And why in the name of what ever diety you believe in would you "leave" maggots in your car?

The whole cycle is called metamorphosis. It's just like what happens to butterfly. You are lying if you don't know about butterfly's life cycle. Here is how it goes:

Fly lays the egg
Egg hatch into maggot
Maggot will get into cocoon stage
Fly will emerge from the cocoon

so basically, the answer to your question is none, because maggot doesn't lay a fly, but ONE maggot turn into ONE fly instead.

the reason why the flies kept coming was because the maggots didn't turn into flies at the same time. some individual might need more or less time to get into the mature stage.

One maggot becomes a fly. A maggot is a larval fly. Flies lay eggs that become maggots, not the other way around. So if the flies keep coming then he needs to clean out the car more thoroughly. Try Insecticide or citronella.

Mike is right. The maggots come from the eggs that flies lay, not the other way around. Each maggot matures to one fly.

A fully grown mature fly lays about 100 eggs per day. Maggots are larvae, they then form the pupa (cocoon) & then grow into adult from the shell. Maggots can't reproduce but yes, they take less time to grow..say, about 5 days to grow fully into an adult fly.

1 maggot = 1 fly
flies lay eggs = maggots

About 200 every 24 hours - it was on the news today - some japenese guy hates flies and created this contraption to kill them. Anyways, yeah he said they lay 200 per day.
