Fahrenheit formula
The C in the formula = celsius
insert - 40 celsius into the formula
F = 9/5(C) + 32
F = 9/5(- 40) + 32
F = - 360/ 5 + 32
F = - 72 + 32
F = - 40
- 40 celsis = - 40 fahrenheit

To convert Fahrenheit temperatures into Celsius:
Begin by subtracting 32 from the Fahrenheit number.
Divide the answer by 9.
Then multiply that answer by 5.
SO: -40F (-32) = -72 / 9 = -8 x 5 = -40C
To convert Celsius temperatures into Fahrenheit:
Begin by multiplying the Celsius temperature by 9.
Divide the answer by 5.
Now add 32.
SO: -40C x 9 = -360 / 5 = -72 + 32 - -40F

I am not sure of the question but as you said -40C meets -40F thats correct, here is a small solution to prove it if this helps,
- 40C x 1.8 (+32) = degrees F
- 72 ( + 32) = degrees F
-40 degrees Farenhite
In short Celcuis multiply by 1.8 and then added by 32 gives you Farenhite and proving that -40C is -40F.

F = C stated condition
(F-32) * 5 / 9 = C conversion
F -32 = 9/5 F
-32 = 9/5 F - F = 4/5 F
F/5 = -32/4 = -8
F = -8*5 = -40

Karan H has the simplest method but here is a longer one.
You have to start with the conversion formulas for Celcius and Fahrenheit.
F=(9/5)C+32
C=5/9(F-32)
Since you are looking for the temp where F=C you would write down: (9/5)C+32=5/9(F-32)
Since the initial statement is that F=C, you can substitute X for C and F in the equaton to make it simpler: (9/5)x+32=5/9(x-32)
Then just solve for x:
9x/5+32=5x/9-17.77777778
(9x/5)-(5x/9)= -49.777777778
1.8x-.5555555556x= -49.7777777778
1.24444444444x= -49.7777777778
x= -40
You can keep fractions to be more exact, I just changed to decimals here to make it a little easier. I made this a lot more complicated then necessary looking back at the answer Karan gave, but I'll leave this up anyway. LOL

Let F be the temp in Fahreneit and C in Celcius. We know that C = F.
F = 1.8C + 32
=>F = 1.8F + 32
=>0.8F = -32
=> F = -32/0.8
=> F = -40.

Simply use either conversion formula, C to F or F to C.
C to F: F = 1.8C + 32
F to C: C = (F - 32) X 0.56
Mind the signs, of course.
