A total of 108 students are in the valley high school marching band. There are 20 more boys than girls in the band. How many boys and how many girls are in the band?

x = girls

x + 20 = Boys

108 = Total girls and boys

2x + 20 = 108

2x + 20 - 20 = 108 - 20

2x = 88

2x / 2 = 88 / 2

x = 88 / 2

x = 44
