I've just returned from a holiday in Canada - the people are so friendly - I think more so than Americans. Why should they have an issue with the colour of your skin? I'm sure they've seen people of different coloured skin before - there is a very large cultural mix in the country you know. I think it's more about your attitude. If you're a nice person, they will like you for being you. If you are rude or nasty, they probably won't like you. I'm sure you'll be fine.

It's not really the country that would be racist, more individual people...although I do admit, some places are so much more tolerant than others...
Don't worry about it too much. Canada I think has a long history of immigration and I think it will be the same, if not better, than other countries.
Good luck with the degree =)

As previously mentioned in the other answers, you will find Canada as racially tolerant as anywhere in the world - probably more so. We have large immigrant populations all over the country, which tends to be less "ghetto-ized" than other large international cities (certainly less so than large US cities). We have had none of the recent racially based riot issues recently seen in France and the UK.
Having said that ... as anywhere else, there are idiots in any crowd.
I suspect you have little to worry about.
Where in Canada are you going to study?

Canada is very accepting to different race people unlike many parts of the United States. You will not have a problem there.

WHAT!!!
Do not ever let somebody make you feel that way.
Anybody who might behave in such a manner towards you is not even worthy of you thorts or time.
You are young and on your way to becoming a successful women.
That is fantastic and you are a role model that people should look up to, not down on.
Be proud of who you are and where you are heading in life.
You are going there for a reason and do not let ANYTHING get in your way of that.
If anyone tries to say anything then just ignore it.
These people are ignorant and not worthy of any reaction.
Congratulations.
I wish you all the best in what you are doing.
"Remember" hold your head up high.
Good luck.

I've known a few canadians and they were very nice and tolerant. They didn't put up with any crap being said about other people. I've never been there, but from people who have I've heard it's so much better than the UK, the people are so much nicer. You won't want to come back!

You have nothing to worry about, Canada is one of the largest immigrant communities in the world. People from all backgrounds live there. They will welcome you.
