Whatever floats your boat, if it's not hurting anyone, I don't have a problem with it.

it depends entirely on the two (or more) people involved, like with all other things sexual and non-sexual. that's simultaneously the beauty and the flaw of it.
swinging definitely won't fill an emotional or sexual void on the long term, thought it might enhance the relationship of a loving and trusting couple. i've known this to be the case.
i think people should know themselves before they embark on a non-exclusive sexual journey of any kind. all possible problems such as insecurity should be addressed and taken into consideration.
any one person shouldn't under any circumstances force another (or be forced) into swinging, threesomes, bondage, toys, or even sex with the lights on.
this, i believe, is what causes all the problems associated with nonconventional sex lives.

I'd say most were of your second part: "Or are they deeply connected loving and trusting couples that simply wish to explore and enjoy their sexuality?"
Wish I had a partner who liked it, I'd do it all the time if I did! :-D

Wow that is such a archaic turn of phrase. No insult intended. At 48 I was a child in the 60's and there was talk about "swinging singles clubs". It was quite scandalous then. I didn't think we called it anything now since our more liberated society is more realistic about our sexuality and accepts this type of thing as human and no longer scandalous. I think it's more acceptable but of course being human means this type of behavior can break down the exclusivity of a relationship.

Well, one of my good friends was a lesbian in college and then "got over it" when she had to move back in with her old world Polish parents after graduation. She married an older guy (nice enough guy but ???). They now have two young children, and they hire a sitter to go out and swing on the weekends. So for them I would have to go with option A. Although I am not sure she is unhappy. She gets to be involved in a loving happy marriage that her family approves of and she still gets to have a fulfilling sex life. It is not ideal but who am I to judge?
For others it might be option B. I love my partner and would never actually be with anyone else. I have never known anyone who decided to swing and stayed together long term. I think it sounds appealing in the abstract but it actuality feeling get hurt too easily. It is not a gamble I would be willing to take with my relationship.

Ha, as I understand it, and from experience of several friends that have swung (i never have) it's fine if you're going with someone (a very open minded friend) and it's purely for the sex.
If you're married, you'll soon not be, as every couple I know who've swung have gotten divorced in the 2 years or so afterwards.

I've seen examples of both answers. Some are lost. Some are courageously flaunting the norms of society and living their lives to the fullest. Most fit somewhere in between.

I think it is vile!
I just could not let the man I loved with all my heart go off and have sex with someone else and I would be upset if he thought it was o.k for some guy to give me one.
But, each to there own, who am I to judge. That's just my opinion, I am sure lots of couples have lots of fun swinging. Just not my cup of tea!
