An ammeter and voltmeter of suitable ranges are to be used to measure the current and voltage of an electric lamp. If mistake were made and meters interchanged, what will happen?

Voltmeter will show the open circuit voltage and ammeter will show zero!

Actually it's not zero, it's the current passing the voltmeter but because of it's high resistance, it is nearly zero....

The ammeter placed in parallel with the voltmeter should show
almost the full circuit current.
the voltmeter should show the circuit voltage

as the voltmeter has ideally infinite resistance and if it is placed in series with the lamp instead of ammeter, the current in the circuit( lamp )would be very small(almost zero).
