they are the unofficial world champions 2007.
The one thing this Sri Lankan team seems to gaining is an intimidating batsman who comes in after hard hitting openers and can, if required, take the game away from the opposition with pure aggression. Aravinda de Silva came to the wicket at Eden Gardens during the semi-finals of the 1996 World Cup, after Sri Lanka had lost a couple of early wickets, and destroyed India. He just decided that the bowlers had to go…and they went.
Kumar Sangakkara might become that sort of batsman in time.

If you look at the past , only India and South Africa have given the Aussies a tough fight . The 438 run chase was triumphic for South Africa. India could have beaten the Aussies on the latter's home soil in the 2004 Test Series , if Parthiv Patel hadn't missed the stumping chance to dismiss Gilchirist.

India were a great team, but since that 2003 World Cup final, they never regained top form.
Currently, South Africa is the best, after Australia, simply because they are more consistent. Sri Lanka might overtake them soon though.
The best player in SA is Jacques Kallis. Wish Lance Klusener was still around, loved to watch him play.
