All 3 of my babies were on soy milk(formula) all of them could not keep regular formula down. It would come back up like cottage cheese. They were gassy and miserable . My first was even a projectile vomit er. Not fun. It was all due to intolerance. I am the same way. With formula's now there is no difference meaning that they will get the same nutrients needed if they have to go to soy. At 3 years I was able to switch the first 2 to skim milk. The way things are now I will be able to do the same with this one. But , Soy is great! Stains their clothes but boy was it a god send especially when you know they can not keep the other down! Talk to your Dr. if you have any questions.

Every carton of soy milk I've seen says that it is to not be used as an infant formula. I buy both Silk and Kroger (grocery store) brand. However, I think that there are soy formulas; Even some that are organic. If they're not in conventional stores like Meijer, Kroger, Food Lion, Safeway, etc., then they would likely be in Whole Foods or even Trader Joe's. (My husband and I went to a Whole Foods a few months ago. It's too far from us to go on a regular basis, though. They had a very nice baby section and my husband almost had to pull me out of it.)
There is a good vegetarian/vegan board on the "Mothering" magazine site that might be of some help, or even go to the Vegetarian and Vegan subsection of the Food section here on Answers. At this point (even though I'm six and a half months pregnant), I do not know why. I just hope and pray and will do everything within my power to get my baby to nurse. I've seen the ingredients of some non-soy formulas
Anyway, I hope this helps. Actually, Im now curious and if I think of it later, I'll post it on the "Mothering" boards. (I'm eating breakfast [whole wheat bread with organic natural peanut butter and organic naturl blueberry preserves; Yummy] . Then I'm gong to shower before my pre-natal appointment.)

We had to switch both our twins to soy formula. Our little girl was getting skin rashes. Her face would break out and also started getting rashes on the rest of her body. Once she was started on soy, (about 6 weeks by doctor recommendation), her skin cleared up and she has been taking it since then (now is 6 months). Her brother, the other twin, had what seemed to be terrible gas pains and belly aches. He was switched about 8 weeks and has tolerated the soy formula much better.

My son had a difficult time holding down his regular formula so I went to the pediatrician and they switched him. He did much better on it but I would not change without talking to the Dr. first.
