Nice 2 bed house, has been on the market for a couple of months. Asking price £189,950. Bit pricey, but nice house.

I put in an offer for £178,000. Owner called back in 2hrs - seems happy to negotiate, but said they'd like to get £185,000.

In the world of house price negotiation, is this a reasonable agreement? Should I offer a bit lower and how much lower?

Cheers!

pretty reasonable looks like you meet in the middle. As long as it appraises for that price you should be fine

IT doesn't matter what they "would like to get" they put it out for bids, that's that, no questions asked. Leave your bid stand and tell them this.

Be careful, my son bid on a house that stood for several years, all of a sudden when he bid, they called and said someone else bid on it. He bid higher and, again they said someone else bid higher yet, after all these years?

I told him BS they're using the system and tell them this, he asked for the name of the people and where there from, asked to see they're bid. The bank couldn't produce the bid, my son told then he felt like they were using them and put in his original bid, told them he was going to file unfair purchasing pricing against them, they told him everything was fine, his bid would stand, he got the house at his original price. This was all a cop to get him to bid higher until he stopped them.

Don't fall for it, ask them to see the other bid in person.

183. They will probably take it, if not you have nothing to lose.
