The term laptop computer and notebook computer are used interchangeably today.
During earlier evolutionary years of the technology's development, the term 'notebook' was often applied to the lightest weight and smallest units being created, but the units and terminology are now virtually the same.
Some lowcost notebooks are from Dell & Acer around US$799.00

Laptop computers are somewhat larger than notebooks and will accommodate a built-in disk drive unit and; optionally, a floppy drive unit. That is, a CD ROM drive is either built into the unit or the unit has a built-in bay that will accommodate a removable CD ROM drive.
Notebook computers will allow you to attach, via cable, a CD ROM drive. Since the drive is not built into the unit, notebooks are smaller and lighter than laptops. Hence, a notebook is an ultra small laptop. Another way to look at it is a notebook is about the size (or a little larger than) of a real [binder] notebook

There is no difference between notebooks and laptops except the name. They are trying to promote the name notebook so people don't think it's okay to put the computer on your lap. It can burn you! As for brand I think Toshiba is best. Acer is also pretty good and can be inexpensive.

Notebooks do not have many of the same things you can do with a laptop. They are... junk in my opinion.

The difference between tablet, notebook and laptop is mostly size and weight. Notebooks are lighter than laptops, but may be more expensive.
Look at HP, Dell, Zenith, Acer and a few more brands and models.

well laptops and notebooks are basically the same. although both aren't recommended to be on your lap because they heat up so why call it laptop. it would be a flat surface. i would get a macbook at the cheapest price is $1099, i think its cheaper in Europe. if you don't want a mac, get toshiba they have the most memory or hp who has better service i guess.

They're the same thing. Notebook has just started replacing the term laptop in recent years.

A notebook is generally thinner than a laptop, but other than that, they're obviously the same. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 to anyone. I have one, and I love it.
