Hi there there could be many reasons that your periods are irregular.
If you are having sex then pregnancy should be ruled out - condomes are not always 100% reliable.
It could be an hormonal inbalance - pcos or your thyroid do you have any other symptons -
excess weight - excess hair - heavy periods - long lasting periods - irregular spotting inbetween periods.
It could be the age thing aswell as it takes a few years to settle into a regular cycle - some women are never regular.
It could be stress delaying your period - worring about exams etc.
I would go and have a chat with a nurse or doctor to set your mind at rest. Its probably nothing serious but at least you will have peace of mind
good luck

The monthly cycle is controlled by hormones which must be released at the right time for everything to function as advertized. Although it is not unusual for the first year to 18 months to be irregular, after that you should settle into a regular pattern and get one each month. Since that is not happening, you need to visit a gynecologist and have an exam. They will probably prescribe birth control pills as a way to regulate the cycle, and do a pap smear at the same time. Which is probably a good idea seeing as you are sexually active. To put your mind at ease in the meantime, you can always run an at home pregnancy test to eliminate that as a cause. Even after you begin taking the pill- if that is the decision, continue to use a condom. The pill only protects you from pregnancy and regulates cycles. It does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. You do not want HPV or anything else, for that matter.

Young people tend to have irregular periods. Mine are always weird because I have PCOS. But, I'm also a bit older. See a gynecologist so they can check for more serious problems like hormones or thyroid problems. You should see a gynecologist anyway since you are sexually active to get a yearly exam.

Your periods are irregular because you do not ovulate each month- the ovulation drives the menstrual cycle. Getting on birth control pills would regulate your cycle but it would go back to irregular when you come off them.

first of all, contrseption is only like 99% efective, so dont rule it out so quickly.
remember its normal to be later a couple of days or have irregular periods when young, but if its mouths late, you should have a talk with ur GP, i know it may seem embarrassing to talk to someone u dont know about personal things, but really, u'll feel better afterwards!
see if this helps.. http://www.epigee.org/guide/lateperiod.html

This definitely needs to be evaluated by your dr because it's very possible that a hormone imbalance might be causing this. The dr will help you to try and figure out what is causing this to occur.
