I'm 52yrs and haven't shave my armpits all my life. I feel great, thats what matters most.

specific, it does count. adult men are no longer meant to shave their armpits. some physique hair is manly and sexy, and it would not stink in case you're taking a bath now and then... Shaved armpits might easily turn me off!
