Avatar, because it's bigger and sometimes the name is too long, so you have to go with the mouse on it to see the full name. Plus, the avatar shows the personality, but the name is 90% fake so it doesn't mater.

I look at the avatars first, and choose the ones I know that are interesting.
If not, then I look at the question headings.
Name goes last, since I remember avatars very easily (you can now see why I answered this question)
