I'm a student at North Texas, (junior year). I transferred from Oklahoma state because I didn't think out of state tuition was worth undergrad. Point being I'm looking at grad school at OSU in a year 1/2 or two after i finish undergrad. Do you all think for business, an MBA is really worth it. I personally beg to differ, in fact am looking to move to New York city or chicago and if ever go back for the mba later? Any advice on this?

It depends on what your goals are in business and what you are doing as an undergrad. If you are currently majoring in something other than business, or if you have ambitions for upper management in a major company, you might not have the opportunities you need without an MBA. I do think you are better off waiting a few years and getting the MBA down the road, rather than going for it right after graduation.

I would definitely wait before deciding whether or not to study for your MBA. My reasons:

1. To do well in any field of study, you should be committed to it. You sound like you are not at all excited to think about further study right now.

2. Some work experience to further define what you do and do not want to be professonally involved with is important because an MBA (and any advanced degree) can be tailored toward specific goals and you don't yet know what those might be.

3. If you do decide on the MBA later, many top firms will pay for schooling if they see you as someone worth grooming for advancement. Some companies even pick up the entire cost of the MBA degree. When you are looking for jobs, you might even make it a point to ask about career advancement opportunities and what the company expects or supports for that.

4. If you do move to another region, you may decide that you really like it there and you'd like to stay in that region for your further studies. Waiting allows time to familiarize yourself with the schools and programs in the region. Or. . . let's say you move to New York and work a few years but then really want to move to Chicago. Moving there to do your MBA provides a transition time and then you are already in Chicago area when you are ready for another job search.

Waiting definitely makes the most sense.

You did not say what you are studying now. An MBA combined with any undergraduate degree can be very valuable. However, it is a good idea to get a couple of years of work experience before applying for an MBA program. You should consider looking for work when you graduate, in the field that you studied.

Studies have shown that the MBA degree is worth the cost and foregone income. It prepares you for managerial positions in business. It is a broad general degree rather than specialization in a particular field of business.

aucf61 has given you some good advice.

You need to have work experience to make an MBA worthwhile. Otherwise, it's a waste of a degree and can in fact backfire on you, making you overqualified for entry level positions but at the same time underqualified to take on a managerial level position -- no one is going to hire you to manage anything worthwhile if you don't have some kind of professional track record. I generally don't recommend anyone go straight to an MBA from undergrad unless they plan on doing something like taking over a family business (where obviously you don't need to be "hired"), or you plan to go into education such as teaching biz or later pursue a doctorate (which is all in the same as education).

A 4 twelve months college degree is almost a bachelors degree 10 years in the past. it fairly is often reliable to get that extra advantageous education uder your belt whilst it includes economic features interior the destiny. the priority lies interior the timescale. I went staright out of undergrad into grad college and predicted graduating with my Masters degree in Chemistry and being set for existence. The trick wa sthat i became overqualified for get entry to point positions and did no longer pick to artwork for that kind of money and yet i became no longer totally qualified for greater point positions. marketplace experiance may well be a smart gizmo for the destiny and now may well be an excellent time to get it, once you may have the money for a lesser pay scale for get entry to point positions. some companies will additionally pay to your greater education or provide instructions advantages. luckily for you, a working laptop or computing device technology degree ought to bypass with almost something, given the technological spin of maximum disciplines at present. reliable success in despite you come back to a determination.
