Yes, it's perfectly normal for laptop to get hot after sometime. That is because the fan inside are blowing out hot air.

If you are concern about this, you can always buy a cooling pad. It acts like a base and have a few fans installed which will blow air on your laptop to cool it off.

Another alternative would be to buy this thing called Speedball. You stick 2 of this balls on the base of your laptop so it gets kinda lifted up a bit so that air blown out will not get bounced off from the table.

Another cheap alternative will be to stack a few stick-it notes at the bottom to lift it up.

First, I advise you while you are working on your laptop not to put your laptop on your legs or on the bed or something like that because the supplies at the base of the laptop must work and if you put your computer on your legs or bed or couch... this means that your are cutting out the air from your computer, and this leads the base to be really hot. But if you are putting your laptop on a table and it's getting hot then there is a problem and you must send it back to its manufacturers. I hope that my answer will help you in something.

Think its normal as I too have a laptop which I tend to rest on my lap then find after a while To feel the heat. I now always make sure I have something covering my legs or place the laptop on a table or chair with a cushion underneath. I wouldn't worry about it as I've been told this is normal.

The laptops do have power dissipation vents at the bottom and thus they are hot. But whether the temperature is more than what is specified, only the manufacturer or a testing expert can tell.

Laptops come with a warning that they will get hot underneath. This is perfectly normal. The best thing is to put it on a tray if he is going to sit it on his lap - or even a newspaper.

No it is not normal. The fan may not have come on. One way to help is to raise the laptop on a couple of sections of 4x2 wood, allowing air to flow beneath.

The base on my Dell laptop gets hot and I put a cushion under it, as I do feel it burning my legs. I phoned Dell and they said this was normal, BUT Dell did have some batteries that did blow up due to the heat. I am still investiagating this, but here is some link on batteries if this is useful:

Are you letting air flow around the fan? Try using a laptop riser it should help to cool it.
If that fails to work return it to the shop.

I have the same problem with my Toshiba laptop. I use cd's to keep it raised up. Just put them so that they are on the edge of the laptop, ensuring you don't cover any fans underneath..
