handwashing with fabric softener question?

i need to handwash a woolen cardigan, i know you put it in with the cleaner then rinse that off, when i put it in with diluted fabric softener does that need to be rinsed off completley too or is it okay to have some left on the garment?

No, the softener stays in the fabric.
