No one knows how to type anymore! Is it just me that gets so overwhelmed with frustration at the "language" people these days type with? It'd be a lot easier just to type out the whole word rather than subtract and replace letters!!

I think you are absolutely right! I've noticed that the majority of the people that use that typing "language" are teenagers, and being a teenager myself, i do not type like that. I've got plenty of friends that send me message where they cut down words and it drives me CRAZY. And by the way, i don't know if you care, but i also hate it when people tYpE lIkE tHiS.

I think it might be a thing amongst the younger folk. The way they type and shorten words. I don't think that they are less intelligent. Everyone knows that Kool is spelled with a C. But, they like to have their own language and codes. Also, the "language" you speak of might be someone struggling to learn English and they use the Universal short codes. Maybe you should look at the message more then the words?

Y R U trippin'?? Your name is random with 5 m's on the end. Let people be people - don't be a hater!!

We can all be proper and quaint. Or we can just be ourselves. I've been spelling everything out and providing full input in proper sentences, until I saw your post cutting people down for being themselves. Relax. This is the Internet, not grammar school. Until you're perfect, don't expect that from everyone else. I don't mean to be a jerk, I just can't stand when someone makes a generalized comment like this to EVERYONE when not EVERYONE is being improper. Even if EVERYONE did mess up, this is America - a melting pot. People are going to spell and use grammar differently from one person to the next. We just celebrated the 4th of July, don't regress by limiting freedom of speech!

I don't get the "TyPinG LiKE tHIs" part. Doesn't that take more time? It is easier to type out the whole word, because you wouldn't have to think which makes sense and which doesn't.

I used to talk IM slang, but I realized that it impaired my spelling a bit when I was in school, and that was screwed. Sometimes it annoys me if people think typing like that is KOOL, but hey, it's their fault...like mentioned above, society's going to become illiterates if we're going to be like this in the Internet.

As an English major I too cannot believe the deplorable spelling that people use. Granted many have poor grammatical skills but sometimes it's pathetic and quite frankly an embarrassment that our schools are not doing a better job. Years ago I remember when Madonna's movie "Who's that girl?" was in the theaters, and the billboard read "Whose that girl?" I could not believe it was never corrected.

I used to get flustered over it too, but I've become accustomed to it and try not to let it bother me, because, sadly it is the way of the world. I have bigger issues with people than their spelling abilities, like that politically correct crap! Oh dear, how did we ever survive before that appeared.I'd love to meet the person responsible for that garbage, and slap the lips right off their face!

I got an abusive e-mail from some dim-wit prepubescent, when I told her how to spell school, and that is wasn't SKOOL.
She told me that typing SKOOL was quicker, and that "I ShUd GeT A LiVe" (sic).
I find it very sad that we're becoming a species of illiterates.
