Because of oil (for Americans anyway).

Iraq was starting to attempt huge oil deals with China, Russia, etc. using the Euro instead of the US Dollar. It would've have sent our economy into the ground.

That's what I've read and found most believable. And I hate to say it but it seems we (the US) had no choice if the above is true.

It always amazes me that the ones attempting to sound enlightened and progressive with the "We shouldn't have invaded Iraq"and "There were no WMD's"Are so completely ignorant.Stuck in the past."We shouldn't have invaded Iraq!""we shouldn't have invaded Iraq!""SQUAWK!!"Sound like friggin parrots.Repeating endlessly what they have heard with no comprehension of the noises that they utter.Unfortunately, just as in the case of parrots, some people mistake the ability to form word as a sign of thought and intelligence.Nothing could be further from the truth."We shouldn't have invaded Iraq(SQUAWK!)"Has absolutely nothing, zero, zilch, nada to do with the situation TODAY.TODAY,we HAVE invaded,TODAY,if we withdraw, the entire region falls to chaos,Iran becomes a regional superpower and the oil supply(yes, the oil supply is DEFINITELY a national security issue, take off the rose colored glasses and get over it.Without it,we starve by the millions)We went in,and it is our obligation to stay until things are stable.Personally,I think a major mistake made was trying to set up a bullshyt government before they were ready. It should have been,or should revert back to military control until such a time that they came to us with a viable government.Anyway,"We shouldn't have invaded Iraq(SQUAWK)"is a statement that is a damning indictment of the piss poor education system in the US.Why is this question even being asked? Are the questioners so completely ignorant as to not realise we have bases in Korea?Half a century later? We have bases in Germany,Italy,England since WWII.If we leave,it will cause MORE death, not less.We will most certainly be forced to return under worse hardship.noone bothers to try to think realistically, just the ridiculous phrase"We shouldn't have invaded Iraq(SQUAWK!)"That is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TODAY.Idiots who can't get past the fact that this is 2007,not 2002 will be the ruin of this country. They also will be the ones crying loudest when our economy collapses when the oil is disrupted.Sad,ignorant parrots

Because our president does not know how to back off and admit he started a war he had no clue to finish, and has lost badly at fighting this war without a cause to boot. The Brits are followers and their new leadership with pull his troops out of Iraq - it has proven to be a blood bath via the greed of the Bushes. No pun intended.

Because terrorism still exists in Iraq, and they use it to launch attacks there and abroad. Before we overthrew Saddam's regime, it was just a training ground for them. Now it's a full-fledged battleground. Think of the Taliban when they controlled Afghanistan, and that's what you'll get if we leave.

Because we are assisting the new Iraqi government in stabilizing the country, while also attempting to ensure a long-lasting alliance within the region.

Because we invaded it and now we own it. Leaving Iraq right now would just mean that we would have to be back within three years to fix the total chaos that would reign in that country. Yes, it would get worse than it is right now.

many American and British think to be patriot in Irak, but in fact they are only stupids extremists... and without grey matter...

This country did not have to be invaded.
It was necessary to influence it politically and help the opposition, but to start this war was as stupid as your president Bush.

Makes sense.
