I have seen this question come up in other forums and it got opposite answers there, too...just like you're getting here. It seems most people are answering from personal experience and if theirs failed it might have been because of something besides the 8x spec on the card. Nvidia.com says it works. Who better to believe?

ASUS A7N266-VM SE supports only upto 4X, and you cannot use 8X card. However, the slots are downward compatible, that is, you may use either 4x / 2x / 1x AGP cards, but not above. You can download the manual from http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Yes, I think it can work on your motherboard. But the performance will be worse (Just like a 4x card).

yes it will work but your graphics card wont give its best performance because u using it on a 4x agp port (1064MBps) instead of a 8x agp port (2128MBps)

Nope. If your mobo has an AGP4x slot, it won't run an AGP8x card.
An AGP8x board will run an AGP4x card, but not your way round.

If the motherboard specs say so, yes. If not, no.
If memory serves, your's is too old. (Hint: 266)
