Living in the west, I don't get to see many eastern conference games, so I guess I'm not qualified to vote on this. *smile* Nevertherless, after watching the Cavs' performance in the finals, I'd pick Mick Brown. I don't know how they even made the finals, and once they got there, he didn't seem to have any idea what to do.

I'd say Sam Mitchell wasn't overrated. He didn't really have a good roster, but if you exclude their slow start (I believe it was 7-13), they had the best winning percentage in the Eastern Conference.
Who was overrated, though, was Jerry Sloan. He is a great coach, but he did not really do a particularly special job this year. Deron WIlliams turned out to be the player everyone though he'deventually be. Carlos Boozer played like always. This does not make thecoach a genius, it means you have a quality team. It's like Phil Jackson, who seems to only be able to win when he has a couple once in a generation players (Michael Jordan in Chicago, Kobe and Shaq in LA). My top 5 overrated coaches last year would be
1- Jerry Sloan
2- Phil Jackson
3- Avery Johnson (he's really not that good of a coach)
4- Flip Saunders (Detroit has no competition in the East, and they still only had the 4th best record in the NBA. IF Detroit is really all that good, they'd win 60 games in the horrible eastern conference)
5- Rick Carlisle- The Pacers sucked, but when they fired him everyone said it was a dumb idea. It's not that they don't have talent, Jermaine O'Neal is one of the best players in the east, but it was like he was a basketball god or something with the way the media reacted to the Pacers smart decision to get rid of a underperforming coach)

Detroit's most coveted coach; Flip Saunders. Two straight strong years for Detroit in the season but always fell short of a visit in the Finals. At least in Larry Brown's two year tenure they went to the Finals and won a championship on their first.

I don't think it was Sam Mitchell. His team was not that good and they still made the playoffs.
I think the most overrated coach was Flip Saunders. He had a good team and did not go to the final. People gave him too much credit.

Phil Jackson still hasn't proven he can win without having a powerful lineup. At least Larry Brown did it (Philly 2001, Detroit 2004).
The same with Avery Johnson, just plain lucky with his lineup. I'm sure if he were coaching the Warriors, they would not get the upset playoff series win.

In my opinion, "P.J." is the most overrated coach ever college (290-270), NBA head coach, NBA assistant coach, etc...
Good luck Seattle.
"P.J." doesn't know basketball. Spree was right but should have expressed his opinions differently.
