Hi father thinks they should have amputated his foot, but they wouldn't in case of poisoning through the dirty water, but as his Pa said, - he died anyway

Hmm, I don't know...that is very sad. Can you post a weblink to the article?

Sad but I don't imagine they did any less than they could have. It's in no one's interest to let the poor bugger die.
Ok, his father is right, if he was going to die anyway what difference would it have made cutting his leg off? There's a chance an infection could have been controlled.
Still, hindsight is a wonderful thing. It lets everyone realise what they could have done differently if only they'd been able to stop for a moment and think about it.

Yes, he was fine for oxygen... it wasn't the lack of air that killed him. It was hypothermia. That water is cold. Even at this time of the year, it can kill you quite quickly. And there's nothing the emergency teams could do about that, because there was no way to clear the water around him.

I imagine that the fire brigade and ambulance service did all they could for this young man. It is absolutely tragic and on the face of it, seems unbelievable that nothing could be done so save his life. However, you have to understand that flooding can be so quick, they showed the actual drain on television and the water was flowing into it like a river at high speed. Did you also know that another man died on a train platform - one minute he was there and minutes later drowned when water came flooding in and he could not escape. It's hard to believe but that is how quickly natural disasters take hold.

I think there needs to be some serious questions, I have no doubt the people who attended think of this with a heavy heart, though that doesn't mean there shouldn't be questioned asked.

He was fine for oxygen, what were they doing? I can honestly believe they were arguing amongst themselves as the decision is so hard, and amputation is never going to be an easy to condemn a man too, but it needed to be done.

I understand they tried breaking down the surrounding wall to get his foot free, after two hours they should have amputated.

The same thing was apparently on 'Casualty' the weekend before with a man with his fingers trapped. They ended up amputating hisfingers with an axe - So it could have ben done - And why didn't they give him some sort of diving equipment so he could breath for longer. It's ridiculous that they didn't do anything.

Hindsight is a wonderfull thing, but look at the definition of Hindsight.
We always find a better way after thinks go wrong.
Those Lads done their best with the equipment they had to save him(I'm sure they found it hard to rest afterwards).
His Dad is naturally finding it difficult to cope and is searching for answers.
The only question he has is,, Why My Son.

Sounds to me like they were all to scared to do anything in case they got sued. It does seem ridiculous that in this day and age a man drowns with help round him.

Im sure they did all they could .......... perhaps I would question how after 4 hours, no-one had a solution.

I can understand the father lashing out but sometimes these things happen. I feel desperately sorry for him though.

I think they did everything they could.

Apparently, they gave him oxygen and tried everythignto free him, but i heard he actually died of hypothermia because of the cold water.

The emergency services fought for hours to free him. It was not possible. It's very sad but no-one is to blame.
