So I am in college in California. I am living with 7 of my friends that i lived in the dorms with last year. yea 7 is alot of people to live with, but its a 7 bedroom house and its cheap to live like that. our landlord owns like 100 houses so he doesnt really care about them individually. We have payed two months rent so far to a website he makes us pay at. and now he said its mandatory for us to all pay from the same bank account in one big check, no one wants to use their bank account to pay cause no one wants to go hunt down the other tennants to make them pay, this is a disaster. what are our options? I do not know the other tennants well enough to trust that they will pay on-time and we are going to have a late fee every month now. currently all the renters pay seperate, cause we are all on the lease to pay the individual rent for our room. the late fee is $100 if you pay late. if this is too confusing please ask questions. I can provide more info. Thanks!

Well your landlord wants to get away with responsibility of hunting down each tennat hence asked 7 of you to share this responsibility

One of you can get ECS auto debit facility from the bank account from the other 6.

Every month on a particular date this amount will be put into one account automatically.

Check your bank for details.

Cheers!

You could each get a direct debit set up so the rent goes straight out of your bank account and in to your landlords, this way you can be sure every one pays on a certain date.

Although if the money from one person doesnt go through(becasue they dont have enoguh in their account etc etc) then it is likley you will all get charged.

I dont think there really is another opition.

Hope this helps

:)

This sounds like you are creating the disaster, with all these accounts and all these people, he must have been nuts to agree with all this.
After taking it on for awhile he probably found out it's just to hard to keep tract of you guys.
Give him a break, get together and make one guy responsible for all the rest. Then you can all pay one guy and he can take care of it. It would be so easy.

Unless you have signed a lease agreeing to the late fee, it is not collectible. Unless the lease provides for a single payment, that demand is not enforceable. But if I were you, I'd move.

with 7000 tenants instead of 100, hes eliminated his headache by lumping payment per household. Seems hes also set-up to generate late fees........
until one person steps up in your household, and figures out how to mail 7 individual payments together on time, your going to have this mess.
