What is the purpose of going to university or pursuing learning on your own if one day you could just lose it all ...I read that after age 85
one in 2 people gets Alzheimer's disease ...

What is the point if this could happen and all your work is lost forever?

One must think of the true quality of life in making the earth a better place for others.

Wow what a question. I too have a similar question that has haunted me. Seeing that life will end, and usually not in an easy manner why are we born? Why do we have children knowing they will eventually die after suffering all the joys and horrors of life.

Do we have children just for the joy they give us? What would be so horrible if human life ended?

For your question I guess I feel that Alzheimer's only affects a small part of our life. Education is not so much about learning as it is about telling me there are things out there to see and do.

School just gives you some basic needs but mostly it hits you with a broad range of topics that you might never of heard of otherwise and hopefully you find what guides your life.

So whether it's dementia or a sudden heart attack I guess you just try to do the best you can with the time you have and I think education is the best way to help you discover your "thing" and help you further explore it.

That's why I hate to see schools cut art and theater and band and wood shop when money gets tight.

One day, one way or the other we are all going to lose it all.

My fathers as far back as I can trace all had dementia or Alzheimer's. I'm pretty sure I have about 20 years before I start down that dark road. There are a lot of thongs I wasted my time on but education is not one of them.

I don't know how many people live after the age of 85, but there may not be many. In the U.K., most people die at 60 or in their 60s. I think the figure of 50 per cent seems rather high. I have noticed that statistics tend to vary too, so maybe the thing you read is wrong. The best things to do to safeguard against such a disease is to stay away from drugs, booze (which causes srokes and mental problems) and just try to live as healthily as you can.

You don't have to go to University or pursue learning on your own.You can do whatever you like. But we all have to die sometime and we may get Alzheimer's disease,or heart disease or stroke or anything else, and having an education will help us through life better than no education at all.

Here is the crux of the matter. If we are searching for true purpose then we have to seek a Creator.

If we are content to seek the FEELING of purpose, then we will have to try and live with a logical inconsistency that will always nag us. We try to "make the world a better place" or "make a difference in the world", not for the sake of the world but to make ourselves feel better. We accept the thought of the world praising us and that gives us the feeling of having a purpose.

For me, it is better to seek my Creator (fully aware that He may not even exist) than it is to live a lie.

Life itself is its own purpose. Education (at least on the higher levels) is an adventure in discovery. Everyday that you survive, you will have that much more experience and knowledge. By absorbing someone Else's experiences and knowledge by listening to them (or paying for the classes and taking the tests!) you enrich your own life experience. Share your point of view and listen to other points of view.....evolution works!

because ur supposed 2 get an education and make a difference in the world even if u only help or effect one person, its still worth it. life is about having fun, living life to the fullest, and finding love in a person or a cause.

Use what you have learned to help others and be a positive contibutor to their lives. So that even if you were to lose all your memories, your work will not be forgotten because it will live on in the memories of those you have helped.
