As the others have said, RAM stands for Random Access Memory. The RAM is used in computers like desktops and laptops. RAM is basically memory for the computer. The more memory you have the faster it is. Most computers come with 1 GB now since the introduction of Windows Vista.

RAM in layman's language is that part of computer where realtime space for processing is taking place.

Ok let me help you with an example..........While sleeping at night Think of Thousands of things at the same timein Just 5 Minutes, The more you are able tyo think the better it is.....better is each thing should be thought for a mximum of 2 seconds and minimum of a nano seconds if you can do it......in about 4-5 minutes you'll realise you Forehead(actually your frontal lobe) is aching.

That is what is RQAM for human body frontal lobe is the RAM where immediate and realtime processing happens.

To increase RAM you can get add on RAM or you can replace the OLDER one with new and powerful RAM
Your PC almost always have an extra slot for additional RAM
Most sought after RAM size Now is 1GB
Minimum Requirement for Windows Vista

Hope it helps
Cheers!

Simply, it's special memory that helps you to run programs. The system loads parts of the program into the RAM to help the program run faster. This is because the RAM is faster for the computer to access than the hard drive.

If you use programs like Microsoft Word and and games like Sims 2 I would recommend 512 MB of ram or if you are using Photoshop, Movie Maker or a complex game like Oblivion, 1GB.

Hope this helps!

To put it simply, RAM is just your computer's memory. It's function is to basically keep your computer moving efficiently. For example, when you open a program like iTunes or even a folder like My Computer, the time that it takes for the folder and iTunes to pop up and the speed at which you can maneuver within those folders and iTunes is dependent on your RAM. Let's say you open iTunes, and it takes forever to open. That's because you don't have enough RAM. Let's say you open it, and when you try to click on the tabs or go to File or something, and it pauses before a drop-down menu appears (it looks sluggish), that's due to insufficient RAM. Let's say you're playing a game, and it's soooo slow. Once again, blame the RAM. All you've got to do is upgrade it by ordering the correct RAM for your comp yourself and installing it by yourself OR you can just get a professional to do it for you for a fee.

By the way, RAM doesn't affect Internet performance.

Random access memory (usually known by its acronym, RAM) is a type of data storage used in computers. It takes the form of integrated circuits that allow the stored data to be accessed in any order — that is, at random and without the physical movement of the storage medium or a physical reading head.

Generally speaking, the more you have, the better. If it's for general computing or playing games, having up to 2GB is the limit before going overkill.
