This country was founded as a Republic. Meaning that we are a country ruled by laws created from elected officials.
We have strayed so far from the basics that even our own government cannot discern anymore what is right or wrong.
Immigrants were and are the basic foundation of this country's greatness. But even they would all agree that the process of legalization for citizenship should be done just as the word "Legal....ization", by the LAW. Just being here 20 years illegal does not qualify anyone to be a citizen. Learn the language, laws, history and respect our customs, then get in back of the line and do it legally.
By the way it is spelled immigrants. It was the French Government that gave us the statue of liberty with the word 'Liberty' on it. They did not imply that we are at liberty to break the law and use the word "******" as an example for freedom of speech.

The sad fact is that there is NOTHING wrong with the current immigration laws. The problem is there is a major LACK OF ENFORCEMENT of the laws currently on the books!
Did you see the story on the news yesterday where there may be upwards of 70,000 ILLEGAL ALIENS working for the government? Including at the DoD, IRS, and possibly even in the intelligence community?? Even the damn government can't play by the rules!!
The truth is that if the current laws were enforced, there would not be any jobs for illegal aliens. Most of them would simply go home. It's one thing to be poor but with your family. It's quite another to be poor, jobless, and away from your family in a foreign country.
This is NOT an anti-immigrant rant, by the way. The mix of cultures in America is what makes us the GREATEST nation on the planet. We truly are a nation of immigrants and the vast majority of us come from immigrant stock. Legal immigrants are welcomed with open arms. We're flattered that they chose OUR beloved country as their adopted homeland.
However, people who are here illegally simply need to go back home and pursue their dream LEGALLY if that's what they want. No free ticket, no amnesty, no jumping ahead of those who play by the rules.
We can fix the problem starting tomorrow simply by ramping up enforcement of the laws on the books. If employers were hit with the $10k fine per undocumented worker, per day worked the jobs would disappear tomorrow. Employers break the rules because they know that the cost of the minimal fines actually imposed added to the sub-minimum wages that they pay cost less than hiring legal workers. It's all about the money, pure and simple.

Things tend to change throughout a century.
I do believe we need to close the southern border and deport all the illegal immigrants. They know they're not supposed to cross the border illegally, yet they do it anyway. And now we're supposed to let them become US citizens/legal residents?
I don't think so.
I live in Oregon and 99% of the Mexicans I see make me sick. They live ten guys to a two bedroom dump, send or horde their money for when they go back to Mexico. ID theft with SS #, most don't have car insurance, they don't learn even the most basic English phrases, I don't think they know what a prophelactic is (having kids one after another), then our public schools have to have a huge number of ESL classes because their border jumping parents don't encourage the kids to learn English, hospital/prison $$$, etc, etc.....basically they DON'T integrate into our society. The word "alien" is there for a reason. Parasitic also comes to mind.

Dude let's be honest... it's not just immigration, it's everything. By everything I mean the war in Iraq, FEMA, healthcare, social security, unemployment, the housing market, the stock market, government corruption at the highest levels and magnitude, global warming, a slowing economy, minimum wage and inflation... and immigration amonst all that. Cindy Sheehan, although nuts, was right in saying that our government has become a corporate wasteland. Game over man, game over.

Yes, this country was founded on immigrants. But does that give the ones that come in illegally the right to be here.
If you come into this country legally, I have no problem with that. But don't ask me to pay for the doctors bills, housing, food...etc. if you are illegally in this country. Please if your in my country, learn to speak my language. Every other country requires you to learn there language, Why don't we!!!
No more amnesty, No more free rides, if you don't like our rules, then maybe we are not the country for you. We need to draw the line somewhere!
