It's survival and acceptance for us.- people like to laugh and if I made them laugh, I thought I would be accepted more and it helped me feel more normal I guess. But when that doesn't work, some of us turn sharp tongued and turn wit into harsh words and become "Catty" because we may not have the self worth and self respect we think others have of themselves.
thank you
The Long Beach Gay Guy
Oh, and for the "ditsy" comment-I don't like Madonna, I don't like Marylin Monroe, and "Well I can't dance, I can't sing" either but I do like Ice Hockey, I changed a car engine & tranny by myself at 17 years of age, I played soccer and liked playing goaltender and defenseman-Just loved to slide tackle other players-RAIN or SHINE girl-I even broke some nails!
Not all of us are "DITSY"
are all blonde girls dumb?

i dont think this is necessarily true but if i took a cheap guess i would think it's bcuz they are usually on the defensive (bcuz they are usually not readily accepted by society) and have to be quick and sharp if they are to survive in a hostile society so their witty remarks may be a way of dealing with/surviving the harshness/ignorance of society.
the kid most teased upon in skool may also become witty after a while bcuz they have to find a survival strategy to deal with bullies and the like, they need to learn how to make light of the situation and grow a thick skin, not to become easily offended....this may be the same for all "underdogs"
a defense mechanism....this was if i had to take a cheap guess....lol

I am lesbian, so I will tell you what I think. Like was said above, not all gays are "witty." Those that are, may be just that way, or it is also a way to cope. learning to laugh at yourself or joke about yourself before others do.

That's my thought on the subject.

I believe that you are stereotyping. I know plenty of gay people who aren't witty, and I know plenty of straight people who are. However, I believe that they are written and portrayed that way in the media so that the ignorant public won't be as alarmed by their existence. It is sad.

Maybe the particular people you're referring to feel a need to laugh. That may be a way they cope.

Probably because they are not inhibited and have less to hide. Maybe they're not worried about what they say and are comfortable in their own skin and have practice being open to people about themselves.

I think it's just part of their culture. They have a standard group-think like all other groups, and perhaps that's just one of their uniqueness es.
