Can someone reccommend an affordable laptop?

I also have a few questions concerning laptops, and i am extremely bad with computer-jargon so please keep answers simple. Do you have to have the laptop attached to the actual computer to surf the internet, play games, and write on word documents, or is a laptop just a mini computer with everything you need to go

Also, once you buy a laptop is it possible to put more memory in it?

Okay my friend, I am typing this answer from a laptop. Firstly I suggest you ask yourself what will you be using the laptop to do and then you can use yahoo to find laptops that match your pocket and so forth.

Next, NO you do not need to have a laptop attached to any computer to surf the internet, a laptop is just a smaller version of the desktops (the ones in offices and homes) it has everything to go.

I have been using nothing but laptops for over 12 years. Sure a lot easier to carry around in place of a desktop. Check your local major retail stores for different systems and configurations. Look at them and even type on them to see if you like the keyboard. Look at the screens to check viewing angles. Check the features of the system, Processor speed, amount of RAM and Disk capacity. Most of the younger people on the sales staff can tell you if it is good for gaming if you are interested. Don't forget the Office retail stores. Wal-Mart is now selling the Dell line. Be aware all systems now come with Vista installed. Have not had any problems with Home Premium for everyday computing. Dell will sell you a system with WinXP if you order from them. With the different sales from everyone you can get a good deal, especially around time for back to school and Labor Day. Don't hesitate to spend a little extra up front for a little higher end unit that will last you at least 5 years. Cheaper units will be out moded a lot sooner.

BUT to play games with full graphic details (like half-life 2, Command & Conquer : tiberium wars...etc)

You need a descent laptop. If you don't know the computer-jargon you better ask someone you know to advise you or you will get scam or the laptop will not fit to your will.
