Without getting into specifics about why he would say it was by accident, or why it is an issue in the first place, I will merely address the issue of the "accidental" enrollment. I went to myspace to find out for myself before I answered this question to see were it even POSSIBLE to enroll accidentally. To enroll, one must fill out a personal information form, enter a valid email address, then go to that email address and receive an email confirming the enrollment application, and then verify with myspace the receipt and validity of said confirmation email. That's a pretty long process to undergo, with some very specific actions to show intent, to claim such an enrollment was accidental. The whole process seems to be set up for just that purpose. To show intent by the enrolee. I'm sure a simple email to the tech dept. at myspace will yield the information on how to remove oneself. But I would seriously address the honesty issue with this person, as the "I did it by accident" defense, just doesn't hold water. Go to myspace yourself. In the upper right hand corner there's a login box. It also has a place to click to join. Click the join icon, and see for yourself the hoops one must jump through to "accidentally" enroll a membership. Then I believe you will have a whole new series of trust issues to deal with, and the removal of the account may even become secondary to those new issues. It would in my household. Good luck with your situation, whatever it may be.

I agree that it's pretty hard to sign up for an online account by 'accident.' I'm guessing he signed up, then decided he doesn't want to participate anymore. Luckily, it's pretty easy to get off of most online accounts. There are two things he can do.

1) Click the 'settings' or 'account info' button, and search for a 'delete' option. Fill out any forms necessary to delete the account.

2) Click the 'settings' or 'account info' button and delete all of his sensitive information: name, age, email address, that sort of stuff. Once the account is clean, he can just let it go and not update it until it deletes itself to clear up more space on the servers.

Good luck!

To second what others have said you can not enroll "by accident". As othershave said one has to wonder why this would even come up....... what would his wife be wondering about if it is just a normal myspace with the content veiwable by all. And for it to come to the in-laws attention?

Obviously there are deeper issues here. He could have said "yea, I was curious, signed up for it and realized I did not like it". Or I have not looked at it for a while. But to say "by accident"? Hmmm.

You can't enroll in it by accident.

He CAN go in and delete all the info.

And why is it any of your business what your son-in-law does? If he's using your comuter I strongly recommend you cut off his access now. Clean out all the MySpace crap that gets loaded on your browser and tell him to get his own machine and line.

If he is at his own home and on his own dime and time ... why don't you butt out?

How can you enroll by accident. You have to at least create a user name and a password. Your daughter needs to keep her eyes open.
