People commonly say that there is no way to prove your religion, you've just got to have faith. Why is that your religion then? What causes you to have faith in that religion over another one. What causes someone to be Christian over Buddhist? Is it because it's more likely or because you somehow were born with faith in Christianity.

Have you ever noticed how alike religions really are though? Sure some of the practices may be a little different but basically they all tell us the same thing. We believe in a "universal energy" which cannot be seen or fully explained. We have faith and are devoted because we want to be or because culturally it makes sense to us. All religions tell us to be loving towards each other, and that our faith will open pathways of greater fullfillment and understanding. Our faith eachs us compassion and how to truly be universal citizens. I think religion is divided culturally more than racially or economically or any thing else which divides us humans. It's almost and it is exactly like mythology where there is a cultural story to explain just about everything.

I think this is why truly enlightened people start believing in spiritually and realize that if you believe in a higher power that faith has to manifest itself in good will towards man and not by how many hours you spend in a church or temple.

Well, first of all, i think the main thing that factors into your religion is the environment you grow up in; if your parents and family are all, lets say, christian, then chances are you will be one also [there are some exceptions, but it is still more likely to be the same religion as your family]. The other main thing that influences us in choosing a religion is what WE want for OURSELVES. A lot of heaven/hell religions are good for people because it gives them security in knowing that they will still be alive once they die. Buddhism was a way to avoid pain and suffering in the world at the time, and to eventually reach Nirvana, which is another thing people would want to reach, therefore they became Buddhists.

However. I dont think anything makes a religion more probable than the next. Religion is merely the act of believing in something or having faith in something which has absolutely no proof.

Religion persists because it conveys a survival advantage on believers.

Do all things work together for good to those who love God?

Well, probably not.

But.... believing this creates an incredibly positive state of mind.

Now it's certainly fun to philosophically analyze the probability of a given religious belief being true, but doing so misses the point, and the power, of religion.

Personally I think with most people the religion is chosen for them. It is what they are taught to believe. I think you should explore other options to make an educated choice. If you truly believe that your religion is that right one then more power to you. I don't think people should press their beliefs on others or look down on them if they choose not to follow the "right" one.

My religion is only probable to me because I have made that decision. It is not probable to anyone else unless they made that decision themselves. That is the problem with religion and government. Religion is a personal thing that can not be dictated.

Absolutely nothing.

That's the reason for false hope and pride.

Faith can't be built upon nothing.
