hmmm now I've found (on the net) one titled " Penny, George VI" stamped 1951 and it was worth $47 (U.S.) ... just can't seem to find a 1944

lol ty Army Retired Guy ... ok I'll say Pence should I ever make it to the UK ;) .

Yes they are extremely large especially compared to our lil' tiny American penny One Cent. They're the size of our Half Dollar

Yep Army I was thinking maybe that yr. had a small circulation and made the 1951 more valuable.
I have a 1909 penny you'd think would be worth alot, and it's worth like less than a dollar I believe. Actually I have quite a few really old ones that aren't worth much at all, a few cents really.

But gee my head is spinning from looking at all those British coins, how do they keep up? ...lol

Sounds like an interesting (as well as nice) necklace your sister had made.

From reading your additional replies I couldn't make out if you are from the UK or just lived there as a child.

Pence ya mean? Probably not much, I have many of them, love the way they feel in the hand and in the 70's when I was a kid, I loved having a pocket full of them in Doncaster England, what memories :)

PS. LOL I was jez messin with ya :) And its a pence folks (Penny) and they are very large, I used to love having a pocket full of em, felt like a rich boy LOL

Well if it is worth that much! Cool, I have a whole jar with old dated pence, but maybe due to small ciculation for that year or something else.

Only reason I said pence was my attempt to be more like the locals, At 7 years old i hadn't a clue why they called em that LOL The word penny was duly noted in my young mind LOL

And, my sister has one made into a necklace, all shined up and on a gold chain, had a jewelry shop put it together, its a real nice necklace.

I'm American, but my mother is British, I was in England quite often as child, just about every summer. Doncaster, Leeds and Wakefield, all in West Yorkshire. last time i was there was 1990, miss it and need to goagain soon.

About a £1.00 (British pound ) approximately two dollars!

Not a lot really - check out comparable things on ebay - don't think they go for much. Sorry :(

It's a pound, then.

Probably doesn't have much value, but you could sell it to a collector who is looking for it.
