Generally, you'll notice that the foot (base) may start to become detached (pulled up from the substrate) and look like it's dissolving around the edges, the tentacles shrivel and seem to be withdrawn into the mouth area, and it sheds it outer layer rapidly in white strings.

ditto to copper. if it just shrivels up at night thats normal, what are ou test kits showing?? what kind of lights, how much do you feed and what, how much flow is in the tank. if it looks like the pictures copper posted take it out immedantly, they decompose quickly. if you cant really tell, smell it, if it stinks toss it in the garbage.

the color fades, they shrink up and slime up.
